Ballygrl, you said that it was horrible.  I've never tried it, but the pictures look good.  What specifically was so horrible about it?

It's funny that the NY pizza talent migrated over to NJ.  When I lived in CT, it was impossible to find a good pizza (or good bagels, either).  The crust would be burned on the bottom or taste like cardboard, it would be over-sauced, or it would have the fresh mozz on it, which is flavorless.  Bleh.  I wonder why NJ got the talent, and not CT.  Strange.

We have oceans of Italians here in north country.  Getting great pizza is no problem.  In our tiny village, our pizza shop is owned by actual Italians who can barely speak English.  Grandma's even puttering around the kitchen.

It just doesn't have the same taste at all of a real pizza. As far as the bagels? you can get awesome bagels now in NJ, not as good as NY but pretty darn close, and I've been told a lot of the pizza places around here are mob run.

Great NY pizza place in San Antonio. Every time we go, we try to stop by there.

The owners are from Brooklyn.

I like the Papa Johns here.  Good pizza, order online and arrives in about 20 minutes.

I get the extra honey mustard dip and use it on chicken.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . • Hi, I'm Sue!
I totally get that, it's just that around here most of the pizza places are owned by people from NY or NJ. we have the best pizza around, yet people still go to places around here like Pizza Hut and Papa Johns.

Hey, there are thousands of pizza places in NJ, but I still ordered from Papa Johns this weekend . . . oh well, to each his/her own.

I like their Monday Football special -- for every touchdown, you get a free topping and if they win, double the free toppings  :-)

yes, and the garlic dipping sauce -- yum!

I found a New York-style pizza place in the neighborhood.  "Sal" is from Brooklyn and all of the reviews mention 'bad attitude' and 'lousy service'.

No doubt the Philly area is a good place for pizza. The garlic dipping sauce sounds good though.

It's not so much the people making the pizza, but we swear it's the water here that makes the crust so good, but it helps if the person is Italian and from New York to make it all taste good.

I figured that was the case... not too many genuine New Yorkers down here.  When the company I worked for a few years ago picked up a huge Hess account, we had to deal with them.  "Culture shock" is an understatement.

My cousin and his girlfriend at the time, now his wife, they were traveling cross country, they both have heavy accents, her more then him, and they both talk loud, well he said she was a hit in Texas, people kept staring at her and listening when she spoke, 1 guy said to her that he always thought the accent on TV was fake and he couldn't believe people actually talk like that :lmao:. We talk fast and loud and we're very animated.

They had a show on the Travel Channel a while back comparing New York pizza with Chicago pizza. They ended up giving them both the same nod as being the best in the country because they couldn't decide which was better.

Oh, that's the hoity toity NY'ers, most NY'ers don't talk like that, we're loud and animated. I don't have a 100% NY accent though, my Grandparents were Canadian so my Mom and Aunts and Uncles speak like Canadians, well they all married NY'ers, so half my cousins speak like NY'ers and half of us (me included) speak with just a twinge of a NY/NJ accent, I do talk fast and with my hands LOL.

That's true, you probably couldn't even tell you're from NJ, it seems the central and northern part of the state are invaded by NY'ers.
