Microfiber towel finds. Bright but affordable.

Searching for a microfiber travel towel I found the affordable solution.

Microfiber towels are a poly-blend and dry really fast. I wouldn't want to use them daily, but for the occasional travel they are great. I had bought some for friends and was researching for myself.

Expensive. Well, in the $20-30 range (found one packaged for yoga at twice that). I finally found something I could afford though. It was in the auto section of the store, bright orange for detailing cars.

Yup. Exact same fabric just bright orange vs pale blue or green or some other color that makes you think "Hmmm, travel, subtle".

Orange? I can live with that. Cost? $6.00 for 8 15X15 inch ones. Granted, I could have paid $28 for one 15X30, but hey, I know how to thread a needle. That comes to $6.00 for 4 towels that are 15X30. If I wanted a "regular" sized towel, would sew a couple more together.

30X30 microfiber towel for $3.00? Naw, too big to pack, will stick with 15X30 inches.

And, I can clean my car with the extras.

Bwahahahahahaha for automotive selling the same thing for another purpose at a fraction of the cost.

1. Microfiber towels and cloths are just the coolest things.

As long as you sort them by color and wash them separately, they're great for everything from personal wash cloths to household cleaning rags to dish towels and whatever else you can think to do with them.

Last forever too.

Hmmmmm.

One wonders what the Las Vegas Leviathan would use microfiber towels for.

2. And I can tell when I need to put lotion on my hands. They sure do stick to those little nicks. I love finding things in odd places that are the same as more expensive "marked for use" things.

4. Good tip -

I've got the yoga ones (I do hot yoga from time to time) ... but much cheaper from this source. They work great for drying hair if you have long thick hair like I do.

It occurs to me I'm not intimately acquainted with "microfiber towels."

Are those the towels and washcloths with that funny feel to them, almost a greasy, slippery feel?

If so, I don't want any microfiber towels.

I hate the feeling of microfiber towels (the type the DUmmie is talking about) on my hands when I use it. I can't imagine using it on my whole body.

That would be them.

They're great for car washing and detailing.  I have cloths and a microfiber sponge.

I bought microfiber sheets about a month ago accidentally, they're totally freaking me out, everytime I go to change the sheets I stare at them and end up going with the cotton.

There's a lot of surface area to cover.  Sometimes you need your washcloth to go that extra mile.

They feel like they are made of Velcro or something similar. I really dislike touching them at all.

I cannot tolerate touching microfiber towels.  They work great for cars, though.  To use them, I put a glove of some sort on my hand, or grab the microfiber towel with another towel, so I don't have physical contact with the fabric.

I wouldn't even imagine scrubbing myself down with one of them.

If I had to struggle to reach parts of my body like the Las Vegas Leviathan inevitably must struggle, I might opt for a more heavy-duty style cleaning implement, too.  Although, those hard-to-reach areas probably get relegated to Jeanette to clean for him, which makes me think the nicest possible gift anyone could buy for her would be a powerwasher.

For some reason I just pictured one of those high powered hand dryers blowing him dry. :puke:

He could always go to an automatic car wash and use those dryers there.

I can see Kirk using an automatic car wash as a shower, but I don't want to think about him going to a detailer.

I will confess I love microfiber cloths. I have about 40 of them, that I keep in a few different buckets and call my "rags". I will admit I am a bit of a clean freak, and clean things like bathrooms and kitchen counters/cabinets every day. I also have ones I use for dusting. The orange ones are for dry dusting, blue ones for the kitchen, white for bathrooms and lime green designated "other". I used to spend so much on paper towels and Lysol wipes and acquired my "rag" collection at clearance sales, usually a pack of 6-8 for around $3. It is so easy to disinfect them with bleach and in the washing machine and I save about $10 a week in paper towels and Lysol wipes.

When I first saw this thread my first thought was "A DUmmy is cleaning its house? That is unusual!" A large percentage of the DUmmies I have known are slobs. I guess we should be glad this one showers, though I can't imaging using a microfiber towel, too scratchy.

I don't know for sure but aren't micro-fiber towels brought to us by that free market capitalism stuff the prims seem to hate so much?

First of all, I don't think I've ever come into contact with a microfiber towel lol. Secondly, how is what you are doing any different then when our grandparents used wash rags for the same thing we use paper towels for? I'd spend a fortune cleaning them since I hate reusing stuff on counters. They'd still get one use and one use only I just never feel like it's entirely clean and when it comes to disinfecting because there is 'meat juice' or something like that on counters, I always feel better about using a brand spanking new towel that will not be used again ie paper. I know it's a personal thing, but I hate when I see someone at their own home whip out a rag to wipe a counter. YOU may know it's usage history, but I don't and it grosses me out. *jtyangel neuroticism off now--ok, thx bye;-)* :panic: :panic: :panic: :-)

I guess it isn't much different, except I wash mine every other day or so and have a washer/dryer and bleach to disinfect. I still use the occasional towel or Lysol Wipe for something like meat juice or something other disgusting, but for just wiping down cabinets or non-meat juiced counters, my rags do well, especially since they are washed often.

I don't know when paper towels became popular; I suspect it was sometime in the 1960s.

Without them, my grandmother's and mother's kitchens were as safe and clean as any today.

Today's incredible level of germophobia causes huge unnecessary expense.

Howard Hughes would be proud.

Paper towels are nice for convenience, but they sure aren't necessary for cleanliness.
