This sounds very much like what a "security technician" in an insane asylum would do, and so now I'm guessing the job entails "intake and processing" of people recently arrested and about to be tossed into jail.

It's not like any union there has tens of thousands of members.

Steve is waaay too stupid to be involved in negotiating a contract.

Maybe, just maybe, there's something else going on here. The democrat party, labor unions, and big city administrations are so intertwined as to become a single entity. It's embarrassing to the party when they can't put forward a single candidate in a race, even if a loss is certain.  Maybe this do-nothing union post was promised to the neckbeard just for serving as dull-witted cannon fodder in the Bellevue council election.

Police have been fired for using it to check out the background of an ex wife's new boyfriend or other such non criminal queries.
