Gyms are not just to loose weight. People go to tone up, swim and exercise to stay healthy.
No shit. I'm one of those. I'm maintaing my weight at this point. I go for the motivation, camaraderie, and just keep myself in good health. Personally, I take my membership down during the moderate months since I prefer outdoor activities then.
If you wished to loose weight, go to a gym and meet people that had been coming there for a few years and still are trying to loose weight------Grab your wallet and run.

Oh horseshit! Even the instructors and trainers at the gym have small fluctuations in weight. They are human. So do all the people who go there regularly. Sometimes life dictates that we can't devote as much time to our physical activity in the way that would require us to maintain tone and ultimately our weight. It's not indicative that a gym sucks. It's just the reality of the human condition as it is in our day and age of many distractions.
These so called fitness experts are a joke, at least the ones I have seen. Go in at a healthy weight, explain to them you want to tone your body, learn stretching exercises, and increase stamina and the trainers are at a loss. They seldom know how to handle people that are not over weight.
Bullshit...total bullshit and not even worthy of a reply. Perhaps you are just so damn disagreeable and know it all so much they couldn't wait to get your ass out the door and faked stupidity.
Now if you wanted to say that they all pretty much expound on the same tried and true methods then I would agree. They essentially are and should be teaching the same thing, but sometimes in different ways. And clicking with a trainer personally or liking a style of instruction are essential to success as is the level of dedication to doing the exercises that one is given to reach the results. If you see a training 2 hours a week; they have no control over the other 5 you are supposed to be doing your training in or how you feed yourself. Contrary to skinny people thought, they too need to eat appropriately to gain the desired results.
That said, I don't know a single trainer or instructor(and I know several and almost taught too prior to going back to work full time) who do not know how to teach toning. They actually usually have a problem convincing people that they need to tone or rather weight train in order to get the most ideal results in conjunction with weight loss. Even skinny people come in saying they need to lose weight instead of understanding that they need to tone to get the look they want.
Crap a membership at the YMCA is very inexpensive, and they have more programs then the private clubs.
BS again. It really depends on the private club and group fitness classes at the Y are often associated with more fees which if done regularly has to be taken in consideration as to the overall cost. A gym that is inclusive of things like tanning, group fitness, cycling might actually be more reasonable for the regular user.
