Ringling is a great school. Sarasota is a nice town (I grew up there), but Ringling isn't necessarily in the best part. I'm sure SLW would be better at telling you what's up with the area nowadays.

She will be living on campus but I'm still really nervous. My son went to Cleveland Instutue of Art on Case Westerns campus, it was in a scary part of town.  His last rental house was on the edge of what looked like a neighborhood of crack dens. I didn't see it until he graduated, if I would have seen it before he would not have been living there.

That reminds me of my neighborhood at NC State.

It was always an adventure.

The thing is, the neighborhood could be really beautiful. Full of old huge houses from around the 1930's (at least that is my guess about the period).  Instead it is full of rundown houses with people sitting on the porches 24/7 and people walking down the street in PJ's scratching their ass.

Exactly :couch:

There were homeless people, prostitutes, bars, perpetually unemployable middle-aged alchoholics, drug addits, and college students with their parents' money all sharing the same neighborhood.  It was a mess.

I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Oh, she is 18 Vesta.

A wonderful age for ideas to take flight.   Into the possible and leaving behind the childhood of the improbable behind.

Never know when on where a 18 year old will go, what fun , the child may go into the military to work with the animals that guard us and help with science, who knows where an interest or accidental  meeting with another will lead them.

Very scary for the parent, what road will an 18 year old go down, will they go off in directions that are not good for them, will they head off into a direction that takes your breath away ???

Imagine a child that ignores the peers of the day and heads off into the world of life that we ourselves never imagined for ourselves.

18 years old. when I was that age there were few females in the police, none in the fire department.  Few College teachers in Science, or female Doctors.

You are so lucky to have a daughter that can go anywhere and do anything she wishes, just takes dedication and very hard work.

Woman do not end up accidentally in interesting jobs, most start as an interest as a child.   One if encourage in an interest, not forced, just encouraged may find this is their life's work and even if never becomes famous for their work will be proud of their work and acknowledge the parents and family for the encouragement to do so.

Beg, make helmets for those ducks, can be done with pet hair, surprise your daughter.

Yeah, the neighborhood around GT was never all that great either.

Then again, the main drags outside most military bases pretty much suck too.
