I think that Facebook will be around for a long while. It beats pay sites like Classmates.com. I just wish they'd quit trying to fix things that aren't broken and focus on the things that are, like security. I switched to the timeline back in December. It doesn't bother me much now, but I did prefer the old interface.

If one is concerned about Facebook selling or gathering information - there's a remarkably simple solution.

Don't give it any.

My FB profile contains very little information about me beyond my location that's not public domain in the first place.

I use it mostly for photosharing - none of which are geotagged , and keeping in touch with people I don't get to see face to face or through IM regularly.

FB is also a bullet proof place to save pictures. I've gone through two 'puters and when I need to find some old pics there they are. And I could care less if they sell my info or can see me through my web cam. Beware of what you see you cyber spies. Enter at your own risk.

A while ago, I read that Facebook had one major advantage over MySpace & that is that Facebook doesn't include geotagging or any other metadata on the posted pics.

LC, same here. I use a throw-away email account for Facebook. No phone numbers or my real email are used. I give just as much info as I want and it's been fine by me. No hackers, compromises, etc. I AM surprised shocked by the amount of info some people put on Facebook.

I have a couple of friends who put their entire addresses on Facebook.  I could give all of them a visit whenever they go out of town for a week and clean them out.  It's that bad.  They will learn a lesson when it's too late.

The reason for it becuase of all the spam you got from Myspace. There was no security like it is with facebook. The main reason I quit using myspace was because I was getting spam messages from people who don't even know me wanting me to get on their webcam, or check out there "Personal" site. Plus I got about 50 pm's a day from people claiming to be responding to my sent pm to them. On top of that, people would fill their pages with stupid stuff that caused the browser to either crash, or take an hour load. I checked some of the profiles out and these people were idiots ranging porn star wannabes to gaster thug wannabes. It was a joke.

I still have a myspace account and use it for what it was originally intended for, music.  New music acts use to upload songs and videos that could be downloaded and it was a good way to get free music that wasn't being pushed by the major labels.

I soooooooo empathized with Stan that episode. Online "Social Networking" is just---stupid. It's too generic. Bosses can demand your username and password. And look how you can't even get rid of an account! That's insane. Happy I've had nothing to do with that. I'm on LinkedIn because it's necessary for me, but that's as far as I'll go.


Actually I saw my first South Park just this year. Up to this time I never paid any attention to the show. Then I saw this episode and was hooked.

Yeah, in that regard it was o.k. But when it came to all the spam you got (I started to call it spamspace), it just got ridiculous.

Carlos, Seahorse, I simply have too many irons in the fire right now. My wife is there, though, and she posts things that are sometimes useful to both of us.
