Deactivating does not delete your account.  Just an FYI.

My cousin "deletes" her FB every other month.  She magically reappears with her whole profile and pictures a week or two later.

I don't post anything hardly at all anymore.

I hate Timeline.

I just read the newsfeed, so the timeline doesn't bother me too much.

My brother tried to delete everything only to find out nothing disappeared.  He finally gave up.  We just don't post anything important...mostly use it to share family pictures.

Do not fill out the info section (work, school etc.);   do not like ridiculous pages which are just spam companies collecting your info; do not use your regular email address to open the account.

I don't either.  I didn't know about all that info creeping back, when you try to delete it.  That's disturbing.

How do you do that? Its not very obvious.

Click on the arrow at the top of the right side of the screen, select account settings, click on the security icon on the left-hand side, click on delete.

You are presented with two choices. DELETE account or CANCEL account. Select the one you want, then answer a question or two, and you should be gone from there.

I've never had any problems with Facebook. As far as them selling my info, Google does too. Google actually tracks my info. Recently, I had to reformat my PC. I did a couple of web searches on something I searched BEFORE I reformatted it and Google still had the link as purple (showing I'd been to that link before). I was like, "WTH?!?!?!?" It has worked to my benefit, though. Many websites sell personal info, even internet vendors and also credit card companies.  I'm just very careful as to what info I put on Facebook. Just remember, if you don't want it on the internet, don't post it ANYWHERE!!!

For those who don't like the timeline, there's a Facebook add-on called, "Social Optimizer". It's makes FB appear more like the old Facebook.

I have FB. Not cancelling it unless I know something is very wrong. If people wanna find me, they'll find me. I've probably put too much info on the net over the years, but never gave FB my Credit card number, or SSN, or pertinent info like that, so I should be good.

I have to say this in support of Facebook; it has allowed me to get back in touch with old shipmates, team mates, co-workers & school friends. I must admit that this fact, in itself, is a great benefit of Facebook.

I've seen that bullshit Timeline and think it's just about the cheesiest setup imagineable. And the REALLY cheesy part is, Zuckerberg and his gang of thugs are forever trying to push it on you.

And I concur about the power of FB. Unbelievable how many people I know who simply fell out of the woodwork right in my lap.

I don't notice timeline because I use the news feed only.  It's very rare that I go to someone's profile.  I have groups set up and just use that to scroll through updates.
