In one of the rare instances you asshats bother to attempt to quote conservative arguments accurately you cite our "it's a personal responsibility" argument; oft times it is distorted into us hankering for a Somalia-esque anarchy (Hey, at least we'd be safe from Democrat presidents). Still, you are at least, in the odd moment of honesty, acknowledging that we err on the side of personal liberty.
"But," the rejoinder goes, "we live in a civilized society. We have a duty to each other. Yes, people should teach sex ed at home but people don't so the state must intervene. People should be responsible for healthy choices but the state has to intervene against cigarette smoking. Yes, free markets should provide health care but obviously some people are left out in the cold."
Now we read today that a government panel is asking for the government to take over yet another larger swathe of our society to combat obesity. Personal responsibility, this panel notes, cannot be to blame for obesity. Apparently the state has failed its wards with through poor zoning laws, too-low taxes on sugary drinks and other rot.
So...if you SHOULD have a freedom does that mean that you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction?
Let's run that through the Snuggle Bunny BS Detector 5000.
* you SHOULD have the freedom to marry whomever you want but you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction
* you SHOULD have the freedom to speak your opinions openly but you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction
* you SHOULD have the freedom to go to college for free but you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction
* you SHOULD have the freedom have free birth control but you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction
* you SHOULD have the freedom to *decline* an abortion but you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction
Shall we go on?
Considering the Left's longtime, live-in relationship with eugenicists like Margaret Sanger you see why we do not trust your kind.
You never acknowledge we have freedom because if you did you would have to acknowledge we want nothing more than to be free of you.
