Dear Lurkers, A simple question
« on: May 08, 2012, 03:11:54 PM »
In one of the rare instances you asshats bother to attempt to quote conservative arguments accurately you cite our "it's a personal responsibility" argument; oft times it is distorted into us hankering for a Somalia-esque anarchy (Hey, at least we'd be safe from Democrat presidents). Still, you are at least, in the odd moment of honesty, acknowledging that we err on the side of personal liberty.

"But," the rejoinder goes, "we live in a civilized society. We have a duty to each other. Yes, people should teach sex ed at home but people don't so the state must intervene. People should be responsible for healthy choices but the state has to intervene against cigarette smoking. Yes, free markets should provide health care but obviously some people are left out in the cold."

Now we read today that a government panel is asking for the government to take over yet another larger swathe of our society to combat obesity. Personal responsibility, this panel notes, cannot be to blame for obesity. Apparently the state has failed its wards with through poor zoning laws, too-low taxes on sugary drinks and other rot.

So...if you SHOULD have a freedom does that mean that you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction?

Let's run that through the Snuggle Bunny BS Detector 5000.

* you SHOULD have the freedom to marry whomever you want but you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction

* you SHOULD have the freedom to speak your opinions openly but you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction

* you SHOULD have the freedom to go to college for free but you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction

* you SHOULD have the freedom have free birth control but you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction

* you SHOULD have the freedom to *decline* an abortion but you MIGHT misuse that freedom ergo that freedom OUGHT to be regulated for the greater good of society and cost reduction

Shall we go on?

Considering the Left's longtime, live-in relationship with eugenicists like Margaret Sanger you see why we do not trust your kind.

You never acknowledge we have freedom because if you did you would have to acknowledge we want nothing more than to be free of you.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Yep. Just one country on this planet is all the individualists want. There are plenty of choices for the left winger who favors that kind of policy. There are vanishingly few where the individualist can find the peace to just be left alone to succeed or fail in life, and the left is working feverishly to get rid of those as well.

How many tens of billions of dollars has the perfectly preventable homo disease AIDS cost our society?

The government should prohibit gay sex and we could put those dollars into educating poor black children instead of promoting deviant and costly behavior.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Good one.

Of course we're talking to the same brick walls that want to legalize recreational drugs while outlawing soda.

Truly their world view, whether called Liberalism, progressivism, collectivism, etc, meets the clinical definition of mental psychosis.

I am not prepared to assign them that level of innocence.

While there's quite a few certifiably insane primitives, I think the greater part of them are being deliberately contrary, deliberately ignorant, deliberately retarded, like children of an age who really know better, but choose to temper-tantrum instead.

It got them this far in life--way up into their 50s and 60s--so why quit now?

The problem for the primitives being, they've read the end of the road on that.

And most are of an age that even an "instant" conversion to reality isn't going to improve their lives, improve their situations.  There isn't enough time in their lives now to profit from it.

That's why Augustine confessed he knew he was a sinner. He knew he threw tantrums to extort from those around him.

Liberals, on the other hand, do not see themselves as sinners but rather as gods cheated of their due honors.

So, people who prefer presonal responsibility over government intervention are all lazy, fat slobs (try saying that about the Las Vegas leviathan).

Ergo they're hypocrites

Ergo that reinforces the argument in favor of government intervention over personal liberty.

So, if the government can/should assume control over your protests to make you do things for your own good what is to stop them from making you have an abortion for your own good?

Or making you take a pain pill and die rather than let you fight to live a bit longer "for your own good".

Did you read the IOM report?

It's not about what's best for you.

It's about what is most cost effective for society.

It started long before but was highlighted when society targeted "Smoking" as the noveau evil. People were warned that that it wasn't about the good or bad about cigarettes but further opening the door by increasing precedent of govt intrusion into our everyday lives.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.
