I was driving bulldozers at age 8. I wasn't allowed to push up trees because they had no cabs back then but I pushed a lot of dirt and plowed a lot of ground. They were straight drive machines without hydraulic assist steering. By age 10 I was hired out like the other drivers.

Everyone should be so fortunate.

I taught each of my daughters to drive my little JD310 loader/backhoe. That, and to pull something with an old Massey safely.  All three have done stints either farming or light construction.  Pays good.  One is still in ranching.  One does medical billing.  The third is in med school.  People frequently comment on their work ethics.  I always picture them digging fence posts with me, or digging out a spring.  Patching a roof.  Or, some other activity that ignoramuses would make illegal.

I was the first born in my family, so even though I'm a girl with 2 brothers, I was plowing with the tractor at 10, and driving to town for parts during harvest by the time I was 12.  My mother also lost her mom the summer I was 10 and took my 6 year old brother with her for 2 weeks, leaving me and my other brother (8), in charge of 35 dogs, the milk cows, the farm and the house for 12 - 14 hours a day while Dad worked.

Needless to say, "irresponsible" and "lazy" are not terms any boss has ever applied to any of us.

If we'd grown up 40 years later, my folks would probably be in prison.  And no doubt some of us would be next in line.   :thatsright:

So, who is going to work on the farm now? Illegals??????? :mental:  This is really stupid! Don't count on it being shelved. It will be back.

Longview, those "people" you're referring to saying anything about their work ethic are here and on conservative sites. At DU, it's "**** my employer! He won't give me 4 10 minute breaks per hour!! Occupy those 1% bastards!!!" those idiots are children. We're raising a generation of these entitlement-minded assdouches. I'm just glad we still have men and women, like you, with balls.
NAMBLA is a left-wing organization.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

The DUmp had a thread on this.  Some were reflexively for it, as zero can do no wrong, but someone else said

3. This is perhaps the single most ignorant proposal I have heard in a long, long time.

What a great motivational tool to get people to vote Republican.

Because WE have a better idea. We don't let them work on the family farm, we send them to a school that insists they must go to college, where they get loaded down with loans only to find out at graduation that over half of them won't be able to get a job that pays anywhere near the return they might expect. On the other hand, now they are in debt for years to the bankers - we let this go on and then with a straght face tell people how important education is.

Phooey. One more in a string of lying, phony bastards making life harder while they talk out of the other side of their face.

Here's a funny one:

9. maybe they should have a child-labor, or child-apprentice licensing program

to ensure kids aren't working against their will or being
harmed in any way.

The child would have to be interviewed for the license
independent of parents
, guardians. Kids should be allowed
to make more choices about their lives when they are
young.
 :lmao:
Lots of kids would love to be able to work, and make money.
They should be allowed, it's good for them. It's much better
for them than most of what happens in school. So much learning
happens -- useful learning -- from working with real people
on real stuff.

But they must never be forced or harmed.

Get your ass out there and mow the lawn before I lose a boot in it, kid.    Yeesh what a moonbat.

And then they noticed the link was to the Daily Caller, so they all swarmed around that for a long time, repeating each other, wasting time, (Tucker Carlson!!!   :panic:) until someone posted the government document.  That was ignored while people continued to go "See it's a lie, it's bullshit, it's a RW agitprop deal, thanks for debunking you guys are the greatest."  Then

86. Apparently the Labor Dept. is right wing too.

Since they have withdrawn the proposed rule today
