We have a Golden and a stray mutt. The stray has a lot of retriever in him. My son has a rescue who is mostly Great Pyrenees.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

I have a Bassett Hound. His name is Charlie and he's my Sweet Baboo. <3

I like Bassett Hounds, but I don't think the spousal unit could put up with one.  We went to a pet store one time, and there were two of them waiting to be groomed.  There was a big one, making all sorts of noises, then a little one who was his miniature that sounded like he was repeating the same noises after the big one got done moaning out his tune.  The spousal unit thought he was too noisy.  I thought it was absolutely hilarious.

Charlie is loud when someone comes to the door. Not in an aggressive manner. He just demands lots of attention. If you pet him a couple of times and talk to him a bit, he's mostly just a lazy dog. He loves his bed and he's always in it unless he's running around the back yard trying to catch rabbits.

We have a Sheltie, would post a photo but I'm not sure how to do that.

Ditto!  Not sure about the man thing but my Molly is awesome.  Can't think of one single thing that would disqualify her as a great dog.

We currently have an Aussie Shepherd.

Friendliest dog you could ask for, to family, friends and strangers alike.  Until you look to be threatening his family, and then the "Shepherd" part of his genes kicks in, and he'll tear into you like you were the Big Bad Wolf himself.

I have an Aussie too!!  Blue Merle variety . . . wants to do nothing all day but herd things! Especially the cat  :-)

We love bassets! Their reputation for counter cruising is well earned, too. And our Barney ate (wrappers and all) two unopened loaves of French bread one Thanksgiving.

Barney was a great traveler. He died last year.

It was probably the most mad I have ever been at her, or anyone else for that matter.  Fibi was my baby.  She followed me around everywhere, would give me kisses, would mind me, slept in my arms every night since I brought her home as a little pup.

Just have to pray she was sold by the bitch to a good family. Sorry for calling your ex that, but I'm an avid dog lover and could not IMAGINE someone doing that to Bru and Ben. I'd go homicidal.

If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,

If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,
If you can overlook when people take things out on you when, through no fault of yours, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can do all these things,
Then you are probably the family dog.

The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Oh yes, Charlie is a counter surfer. We became quite good at keeping stuff out of his reach. I'm really sorry about your loss. I will be devastated when I lose Charlie. He's family. There is no other way to put it.

Yep, same here, except ours are both female.

And the brains of the two is a mutt -- she's got some lab in her, maybe some coon hound? Rottie markings, but she does not have the frame of a rottie:

Went and looked at some this weekend at a few shelters.  Problem is I am a super animal lover and I want to take them all home.

Nothing wrong with lap dogs as long as they act like regular dogs.  I thing training has a lot to do with it.

Labradogs - there is no substitute.

"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful."

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

John C Calhoun, "Disquisition on Government", 1840
