Don't know if it'd be appropriate, but if I had to pick one song to be played at my funeral, this would be the one:

Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone

When they come I will stand my ground
Stand my ground I’ll not be afraid

Thoughts of home take away my fear
Sweat and blood hide my veil of tears

Once a year say a prayer for me
Close your eyes and remember me

Never more shall I see the sun
For I fell to a Germans gun

Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone

Where before many more have gone
“Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the government take care of him better take a closer look at the American Indian.”  -Henry Ford

Sparky, I'd have thought you'd have Take Her Down in that last 'Special request' mix.

The guy you posted looks nothing like the Lone Ranger so maybe you can understand my confusion.

Understandable.

It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

I like the actual martial music for 'stirring,' be it GarryOwen, British Grenadiers, Rot Scheint die Sonne, Probyezhankiy Guards, Le Kepi Blanc, Heart of Oak...

 :cheersmate:

After a lifetime of playing marches, they're kinda fun to play but I don't like listening to 'em all that much, unless they're executed PERFECTLY. Not many instances of that.

That said, Kenneth Alford's marches are stately, veddy British (of course) and make me want to march to London. A couple of his that are well known include the theme music to the film Bridge Over the River Kwai, aka "Colonel Bogey," and "Army of the Nile." Excellent countermelodies for euphonium, rivalled only by Karl L. King's stuff which is real barnburner and designed to get your toes tapping.
Adams E2 Euphonium, built in 2017
Boosey & Co. Imperial Euphonium, built in 1941
Edwards B454 bass trombone, built 2012
Bach Stradivarius 42OG tenor trombone, built 1992
Kanstul 33-T BBb tuba, built 2011
Fender Precision Bass Guitar, built ?

 :thatsright:

I zoned out on Garryowen . . . :o

But, hopefully, my cavalry roots were showing with William Tell and The Ride of the Valkyries.  (Just a bit.)

One more thing:  Zeus, the guy in William Tell video is the composer.

Not what I would call epic, but it gets my heart pumping and makes me miss being there with the guys.  Never thought I would miss it this badly.

That would make an eye watering quicktime cadence call. It would be awesome to march in formation to it.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful."

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

Excellent choice, CC.

I gotta comment on this a little bit.

Gustav Holst was a Brit and as a Brit, he happened to be partial to the euphonium, my preferred instrument.

The standard orchestral instrumentation does not include the euphonium, but he incorporated one in this composition in both soloist and supporting roles. Listen to the piece again, especially around 2:18 and then the exchange with the trumpets at about 2:54. Stellar stuff, no pun intended. Extra added bonus for this being the Chicago Symphony. CSO arguably has the best orchestral brass section on the freakin' PLANET.

Other composers rarely have used the euphonium, but this is perhaps the most well-known composition that uses the instrument. Often, the Brits will bring in a euphonium player to play the part; in other circumstances they'll forego the 2nd trombone part and he'll play the euphonium part. (Anything to save a buck.  :whatever: )

Anyway, I'm delighted you selected this piece. Epic stuff! h5!

Miklos Rozsa had some great film scores that get the gladiator in ya goin'....

Excerpts from Ben Hur, recorded and taped 1979 (film released in 1959). Make sure to wait for the Parade of the Charioteers, around 7:30 or so.

And here's Rozsa's film score to El Cid:
