The Monkeys became a big hit at the time parents were all confused with the WAR and the drug culture their kids were headed into.

Here were 4 young kids, that spelled out clean youth culture.  The hair  could be excused as youth folly and the music was catchie for the kids and parents.   The TV program was just clean fun, no problem allowing the kids to watch and the adults chuckled at the antics.

They came on the scene as a relief for the adults to the new music they did not understand, just upbeat and clean to them.

With the war, drugs and the new age music, the Monkeys were a one of a kind group of kids that they could understand and accept.

They gave them a lift from the doom and gloom of the time, few parents listened to the Rolling Stones.

Davie Jones and the group did us a favor, or at least my parents generation and kept them up beat, believing in the next generation and not that all was lost.

Reguardless of how bad things got, there were some clean cut good kids out there to lighten their day.

I have the DVD of the original Ed Sullivan show with The Beatles first appearance; on that show, Davy Jones performed and sang with the production of "Oliver".  He definitely had a great voice even at that young age.

And then 2 short years later he gets the gig with The Monkeees, a U.S. version of the Beatles so to speak.

RIP Mr. Jones.

Well, just to be clear, Davy Jones was a Brit, born in Manchester. The other 3 in the group were Americans, of course.

But Mickey Dolenz was the most outspoken conservative.

I liked Mike, the smart one. His mom invented Liquid Paper, and his 'Pop Clips' evolved into MTV.

Davy Jones' death on Wednesday has put a spotlight on The Monkees, the group that was created to bring the spirit of the Beatles' 1964 movie A Hard Day's Night to network television. No one could have foreseen the success the Monkees would achieve. In 1967, the group became the only first and act in the history of the Billboard album chart (which dates back to 1945) to put four albums at #1 in a calendar year. Even the Beatles never did this..........
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Did not know that. Thanks for sharing. The legend of the Monkees lives on.
