The Monkeys became a big hit at the time parents were all confused with the WAR and the drug culture their kids were headed into.
Here were 4 young kids, that spelled out clean youth culture. The hair could be excused as youth folly and the music was catchie for the kids and parents. The TV program was just clean fun, no problem allowing the kids to watch and the adults chuckled at the antics.
They came on the scene as a relief for the adults to the new music they did not understand, just upbeat and clean to them.
With the war, drugs and the new age music, the Monkeys were a one of a kind group of kids that they could understand and accept.
They gave them a lift from the doom and gloom of the time, few parents listened to the Rolling Stones.
Davie Jones and the group did us a favor, or at least my parents generation and kept them up beat, believing in the next generation and not that all was lost.
Reguardless of how bad things got, there were some clean cut good kids out there to lighten their day.
