poll: when did.....
« on: January 18, 2012, 04:18:22 PM »
This poll was inspired by a personal message from a member.

When did you become familiar with the primitives on Skins's island?

Before you joined conservativecave and found the DUmpster?

After you joined conservativecave and found the DUmpster?

By "familiar," I guess one means knowledgeable of the nature of the primitives.

Started with CU and DUmmie FUnnies.  I think it was one of the first things I found at CU.

Since I started posting on Conservative Underground during the Jesse MacBeth posergate.

I have been at DU since the day they opened the doors, thanks to Neal Boortz seeing the sign held up at Chimpy's inauguration and posting it on his site. I even managed to post for a few days before they banned me.

I was moling primitives even before the island existed, on usenet, as NoSoup4U. I learned about DU from FR, when I first joined, I was accused of being a DUmmie.

Before, started with links from Drudge editorialists and then DUmmie FUnnies on FR.

I saw my first primitives the morning of January 20, 2001, during the C-Span coverage of the inauguration of George Bush.

I lived in Omaha.  I had a television at the time, for the convenience of guests; I myself never paid much attention to it.  The computer was in another room.  I was on the computer at the time, but once in a while had to go to the kitchen for another cup of coffee, which meant I passed through the living room, where the television was.

On one of those trips, when C-Span was covering the parade, the instant I walked into the living room and glanced at the television screen, there appeared my fellow alum Skins and Lord Marblehead EarlG in the crowd, hoisting a "DEMOCRATICUNDERGROUND.COM" banner above themselves.

I made note of the name, and later checked it out; I even registered and posted.

But that was January 20, 2001; it wasn't until election night of 2002 that I bothered making Skins's island a "favorite place" on my computer.  I went there a little bit more often, but not much.

In late summer-early autumn of 2004, with the advent of the DUmmie FUnnies, it occurred to me that here was a wealth of anthropological material.  I've always been "into" anthropology and sociology, I suppose because I find it fascinating, how humans interact with each other.

It was during Beth's Scamdal of spring-summer 2005 that I began focusing upon specific primitives for study and analysis; before then, the primitives had been merely an amorphous blob, a quivering sea of the faceless anonymities of a lynch-mob.

Our old home had a forum specifically dedicated to the primitives, and I found that more to my liking, when gathering anthropological material, and so I became active there the autumn of 2005.  The DUmmie FUnnies were, and are, great, but I needed more in-depth material.

And then I came here in early January 2008.

I'm convinced that it was a message from God that this was to be my life's work; that I just by random chance happened to walk into the living room that certain thirty seconds the morning of January 20, 2001 because God meant it to be.  If I had been a few seconds earlier or later, I would've never known.

I became a forum junkie at protestwarrior.com.

They shutdown for a looong while.

I was banned for one of their interim spin-off sites after getting into it with their Ronulans.

Then I wandered into CU and found their dumpster.

You know, even though I spend only about ten minutes a day thinking about the primitives, I look at it as other people look at television; it's my substitute for television, what with all the drama, all the excitement, all the soap operas on Skins's island.

A fellow poster/friend ("Skizz" a.k.a. Atomic Lib Smasher here) posted some selections from them, via CU, on a site we both posted on. I followed the links and registered at CU and saw Fister running his fat fingers about how "Bush was about to invade Iran within months".

I was aware of the Prims from near the very beginning. I was on Free Republic a lot more in those days. One Freeper made even a parody site called Al Quada Underground in that first year.

At the time, I was still under the impression that liberal hippie types were wrong-headed but well-meaning and if I wasn't disabused of that notion prior to 9/11/2001, there was no doubt in my mind about the character of the liberal hippie types in the wake of 9/11/01.  Not only where they not well-meaning, they were deranged and full of hate.

After that, I didn't visit the DUmp much and didn't give them much thought until PJ Comix started up DUmmie FUnnies.  Then I found our old home and then I was here.

I became aware of the primitives through reading Dummie Funnies on FR.

I believe I found CU and DU from links to politicial blogs mentioning one or both of them on AK-47.net (A subset of guns.net these days) back shortly after DU was born.

It was when Rush first mentioned what contemptible lunatics they are.

Not sure the year, 2003, 2004? Probably before the Iraq war in 2003.

I checked "after" but I must add I believe I first became acquainted with them strictly in an anthropological sense long before I became interested in politics.

Definitely it was during the bicentennial year, 4th grade. My class was shown the movie "The Lord Of The Flies" over a three day period in 16mm black and white movie format. For a while I was more enthralled with that than the National Geographics I kept hidden under my mattress.

Once I discovered the Cave and subsequently teh DUmp everything just clicked.

I happened to be reading some news story years ago and someone from The Democratic Underground was interviewed.  I went over there to read and I thought it was a joke site.  I said to myself, this cannot be real.  It was.   :mental:

Once the DUmmie FUnnies took off I was in and hooked.  Been laughing ever since.

I think it was sometime right after the 2004 elections because I missed the total meltdown which must've been epic.

Late 2003 from a friend that sent me an email that said "Go Poke This Hive."  I did and got immediately banned then went into mole mode(s). Found CU in late 05 and they went down 07(?) and found CC.

It's the same for me. Whenever I read a news story or hear something that Rush, Beck, or Hannity says I know exactly how the primitives will react to it.

I think it was sometime right after the 2004 elections because I missed the total meltdown which must've been epic.

The big meltdown was election night 2002, though.

Someone hacked Skins's island, and posted one of those little grey rectangular displays announcing "ALL YOUR SENATE BELONG TO US."

I wish I'd kept a copy of a screen-print of that.

It just totally wiped out Skins's island for about the next day; by the time it was back up again, the loss had been somewhat absorbed by the primitives, and they weren't as hot and excited as they would've been.

After.  Though having watched people like them, and possible some of them, at protests and in neighborhood communes during the 60s in Detroit.  They amaze me, though I certainly don't mean that as a compliment.
