I saw my first primitives the morning of January 20, 2001, during the C-Span coverage of the inauguration of George Bush.
I lived in Omaha. I had a television at the time, for the convenience of guests; I myself never paid much attention to it. The computer was in another room. I was on the computer at the time, but once in a while had to go to the kitchen for another cup of coffee, which meant I passed through the living room, where the television was.
On one of those trips, when C-Span was covering the parade, the instant I walked into the living room and glanced at the television screen, there appeared my fellow alum Skins and Lord Marblehead EarlG in the crowd, hoisting a "DEMOCRATICUNDERGROUND.COM" banner above themselves.
I made note of the name, and later checked it out; I even registered and posted.
But that was January 20, 2001; it wasn't until election night of 2002 that I bothered making Skins's island a "favorite place" on my computer. I went there a little bit more often, but not much.
In late summer-early autumn of 2004, with the advent of the
DUmmie FUnnies, it occurred to me that here was a wealth of anthropological material. I've always been "into" anthropology and sociology, I suppose because I find it fascinating, how humans interact with each other.
It was during Beth's Scamdal of spring-summer 2005 that I began focusing upon specific primitives for study and analysis; before then, the primitives had been merely an amorphous blob, a quivering sea of the faceless anonymities of a lynch-mob.
Our old home had a forum specifically dedicated to the primitives, and I found that more to my liking, when gathering anthropological material, and so I became active there the autumn of 2005. The
DUmmie FUnnies were, and are, great, but I needed more in-depth material.
And then I came here in early January 2008.
I'm convinced that it was a message from God that this was to be my life's work; that I just by random chance happened to walk into the living room that certain thirty seconds the morning of January 20, 2001 because God meant it to be. If I had been a few seconds earlier or later, I would've never known.
