PETRUS (1,746 posts) Profile Journal Send DU Mail Ignore30. Seriously mixed feelings about this.Of course I'm delighted that 474,000 people who might have otherwise died of whooping cough didn't, etc. (Let's just assume the methodology and reporting here is accurate.)On the other hand, I have serious questions about an economic system that allows for the accumulation of Buffet/Gates/Waltons level wealth to begin with, when serious hardship for others, including external costs borne by all of society, are a consequence of this system. This concern doesn't even require facing the fact that a fair amount of Microsoft's "success" involved predatory, anti-competitive business practices.I'm also bothered by the tax implications - the $28 billion in charity donated by Bill and Melinda Gates means maybe $10 or $12 billion denied to the public coffers. Maybe their foundation is spending every penny wisely, but this is a democracy (in theory, at least) and we shouldn't be too pleased with dictatorship, even if's benevolent. In other words, I'm not convinced all this money was justly earned, or rightfully Bill's, or not. And I think we the people should have a lot more say in how our nation's wealth is used.

They hate Gates because he threatens the protected incompetence and laziness of unionized schoolteachers.

I wonder if the DUmmies ever think about how much productivity increases, life's trials and tribulations are eased, etc., by the formation of Windows or any user-friendly PC operating system? How many people owe their livelihood to a Windows or Mac product they use on a daily basis?Nah, **** it. Let 'em all try to communicate in COBOL.

You actually made me shudder, when I was in school it was Fortran 77.

Pride, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony, and LustI think that just about covers all the main planks in the democrat platform.
