Good and accurate information Mrs. S.
Anyone hankering for government run health care should have to receive theirs from the Indian Health Services for a while. That would cure them. It is so over-regulated and mismanaged from the top down that the direct care providers (bless them) practically have to do gymnastics to treat people effectively. It is NOT underfunded. It's just that too many of the funds available are spent on the hoards of Fed workers keeping the whole mess in compliance with the regs.
If I get time, I'll try to find the cost per beneficiary of IHS compared to Medicare/Medicaid compared to privately insured compared to self insured. Guess who's highest? I'll find sources.
I don't know much about IHS, but know someone on it and have seen the crap she has to put up with. She recently made a 90 mile trip to the nearest clinic for an appointment...an appointment she'd already waited nearly 2 months for. When she got there, she was told that her appointment had been cancelled and she was rescheduled another 6 weeks later. They didn't call or make any other attempt to let her know her appointment had been cancelled despite the fact that she'd called them twice the week before to make sure she was still scheduled, and had left her number both times.
The 6 weeks is up sometime this month, I'll find out if she finally got in or not. Of course, our government knows quite well that the best way to save healthcare money is by letting people die...and, unlike insurance companies, hospitals and doctors, the government cannot be sued.
