Having nerve block today
« on: November 03, 2011, 08:24:13 AM »
I am having my nerve block today and I am friggin' nervous.  Decided to google them and see people's experiences and most said painful  :panic:

I could barely get my epidural for my last csection because I was so nervous about someone being near my spine with a needle now I am just freakin out.  :panic: :panic: :panic: :panic:

This is just as bad as taking that damn test  :bawl:

Gina, it'll be alright.  Take it from someone who's been having a lot of apprehension over today, for a while.  My union vote is announced at 2:30 ET.  If it fails, today's the last day.  I'm a tad . . . nervous right about now.  So, I feel your nerves.  (You can fill in the blank.)

I am sorry Blue.   You are right.  I would much rather be in my shoes than yours.  I hope the vote goes your way.  If not, come down to mempho  :naughty:

I know the feeling.  I can't even remember how many spinal steroid injections and junk I've had.  I was pretty nervous with the first one, but all for nothing.  I didn't feel a bit of pain, only a little pressure.  If you're feeling pain during the procedure tell the doc.

You're going to do great!

Assuming that yours is done in the same manner that mine was, it's a piece of cake......it's more painful for the dentist to use Lydocain in your mouth.......

Typically, you'll get a "local" injection first to deaden the area he'll be working......you don't feel much of anything after that, except relief......

They gave me "versa" in an iv because I was shaking so bad.  Then they did the procedure, 3 shots on my right side of spine.  He hit something on the 2nd shot and it almost caused me to jump up off the table.  I really can't tell if there is no pain in my midback because now my tailbone area is throbbing.  So I don't know if it always hurt and now that my midback isn't hurting it's hurting now....shit I don't know.  I am supposed to go back in 2 weeks for another go at it but I might go back to the dr instead and tell him so far no good.  I have 3 obvious puncture wounds/bruises where they did it.  How big is that damn needle? :panic:

Oh Gina you are so lucky, at your age my Docs used the same needle over and over again until they became so damn dull it took a hard punch to just get it to pierce the skin.    Hats off to the inventor of disposable needles.

You have so many improved medical treatments today that we over 50+ did not have at your age.  As we all have different pain tolerances, the medical field adjusts to that fact and try to keep you as comfortable as they can.

I myself have refused the spinal block used in child birth, too many story's from woman that had it and experienced all kinds of problems after birth.   This was decades ago and today I would except the procedure but not so back then.

Cysts on the tail bone, both my father and my Hubby had that operation, way back years ago, Hubby has a scar that runs up his back a good 12 inches.  Today the scar is about 1 inch or less for patients.

Cheer up to know how far we have come in medicine in the last couple years, you will be fine, any discomfort will be dealt with by your doctor, Fear is what gets you upside down.   Have no fear, you are blessed to be living in a time that no one needs to live with pain, you will bless the hearts of Science and medicine givers when all is over.

Keep your sense of humor, be outrageous and ask your doctor in front of the nurses about how this will effect your sex life, how long before you are able to swing on a trapeze in the bed room.

Ok, woke up Saturday and NO BACK PAIN   :panic:

I still have no back pain.  My neck is hurting but that is something the dr said we would get to after we solved the back.  I also have my insurance company purchasing a TENS unit for me to have at home.  It will be all mine  :hyper:

Someone here mentioned that thing and wanted to know if you could tell me what it did and if it was effective.

It wasn't me that mentioned the TENS units, but I can tell you that they work by over loading the pain sensors with stimuli to the point that the coverage area will not register pain.

If movement is not going to damage structures a TENS unit is invaluable in making it possible for some people to do everyday tasks.

I'm very glad you are having less pain.  Changes your whole world.

I am getting it today. It's by EMSI and it is called a Flex-IT.  I plan on getting a nerve block for my neck and if so then I will just sell that bad boy  :-)

I remember the first time my wife had this done. I had to wheel her into the house as her legs weren't quite working yet.

Nope, didn't take advantage of that.............. :whistling:

I tried my TENS unit last night.   :lmao:  Whoa momma!  I did it on my neck, four electrodes (2 on upper neck and 2 on shoulder blades).  The higher I turned it up my shoulders would rise up and my neck would flex out   :lmao:  It was hilarious.  I could make myself shrug by a push of the button.

It helped, really it did.  My neck was so sore yesterday, I couldn't even turn it to the sides or down.  I did the TENS thing for 30 minutes and afterward I could move my neck all sorts of ways.  It still hurt but it took away that soreness.  I am sore again this morning so I will use it at work.
