Blue_In_AK's tree "overpruned" by her electric company

How do these things (if true) always seems to be happening to the DUmmies - I've got to be sure to grab the pictures for this one:

In the grand scheme of things, this is probably nothing, but I am ABSOLUTELY LIVID.

We had an absolutely beautiful Mayday tree in our front yard that was probably at least 40 or 50 years old. It was already huge when I moved in here 22 years ago. Here's a picture of it last spring in full bloom. The blossoms were so fragrant, you could smell the tree all along our streert.

This morning the tree trimmers who the electric utility hires to cut out branches around the lines came by and asked us if they could trim the tree up. We said sure, they've done it many times before when the branches go up in the wires. We then went downtown to buy me some shoes, and when we got home, the tree looked like this:

Now that I'm done sobbing uncontrollably and we've bitched to everyone we can think of, we do have a commitment for a new tree (not a Mayday tree, which the utility company abhors), but it will never grow as big as this one while I'm still alive. Why would someone do something like this?

Besides a tree, I think someone owes me some money. This beautiful tree definitely added to our property value and was one of the things I loved about the place when I bought it.

Mayday tree = communist tree.

You had one and your neighbors didn't...that's not fair...now everyone is equal.

It might change the value to 100 dollars from 90 dollars.

I used to have a tree that the contractor who did the pre-cyclone season line clearing must have hated ; It was full of a nasty, very aggressive  species of biting ants that form football sized nests and was a pain to cut without an EWP.

Told em one time to hack it off at the ground and haul it away. They brought a cherry picker and a large chainsaw.  Bonus that it was freakin' hilarious watching them doing the ant dance all through the job.

"Free" tree clearing service FTW.

Haven't dealt with ice storms, wind storms, and the like very much, have ya?

I seem to lose power every winter over shit like that.  Any aggressive species of tree under a power line is always bad news.  The more you clear them out, the less problem you'll have.

Remember the Northeast Blackout of 2003?  Remember how that was started? (Hint: tree branch falling on a power line.)

I don't think it's the same tree.

It's the same tree, just from a different angle.

The primitive didn't have the tree grow that size overnight; they said so themselves.  This means they have had plenty of time to trim it back away from the power lines.  That being said, if the DUmmie was that concerned about it, somebody would have stayed at home to watch the contractors work.  Then, someone could have showed the contractors where they were comfortable with the tree being cut back to.  Simple enough.

It's the same tree, you're just looking at it from the other side.  Look at the stump from an old branch that was cut off in the top picture that is pointing to the right.  It is pointing to the left on the bottom picture.  It makes me wonder if the DUmmie is the one living in that shack in the back.  :whistling:

Either the cool weather got them (the picture being taken earlier in the year), or what you were really staring at was a vegan primitive's garden pre- and post-harvest.   :-)

I had a small tree growing just in side the fence of my old condo porch. It provided shade and privacy but during the summer it would some times grow over the security light. No big deal since the company that cut the grass would trim it back with the bushes. One day I came home and found it looking just like the DUmmy's tree. I was pissed for a week. But it started to grow bushy again so I left it standing.

Hmm, I am with BG , I don't think it's the same tree.
Look at the number of limbs, I am counting 8, and the biggest limb somewhat leans over to the right. In the second pic, only 6 limbs are cut and the biggest limb stands up straight..

Bg is also correct about the vegetation. Vegetation doesn't distentregrate that fast.

I don't think it's the same tree.

It's definitely not the same tree.   Look at mailboxes in the first picture.  The tree was right next to  them.  In the send picture there is no mailbox, the tree stump is further away from the road, and there is a bush that somehow appeared.

In MA, whether or not the tree is on private property or not, utility companies usually have to approach the city/town with their list of trees they wish to cut back or take down.   There is a permit/approval process they are subjected to.    I can't imagine that process is much different in every state.

It might change the value to 100 dollars from 90 dollars.

1st pic is from 180 of the second. You can tell its the same tree by matching the burl on the already trimmed part. The thing is this tree might be better for the job the trimmers did! The way it sprouts multiple trunks and branches, next summer she might have a nice healthy tree. That baby aint a quitter!
