When a stage collapsed during the Indiana State Fair over the weekend, Christina Santiago, manager of programming for the Lesbian Community Care Project at Chicago's Howard Brown Health Center, was one of the casualties. Santiago's partner, Alisha Brennon, was also injured in the tragedy.

The Marion County coroner's office is refusing to release Santiago's body to her partner; the office cited the Defense of Marriage Act as the reason why they've turned down Brennon's request to pick up her loved one's remains. DOMA allows states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states

What's the big deal. She's just a fag and will find another mouth piece before the night is over. It's how they are.

The taxpayers would be better served by sending the cadaver to a medical school. They can cut her open her brain to see if anything is inside that made her want to become a dyke.

If those people wish to have civil unions that recognize a "couple" having all the same legal rights as those who have entered into matrimony I say let them have it. I don't care what some activist politicians or judges feel about it, in my book I will NEVER regard those people as being married.

This whole idea of theirs, that they demand to be allowed to "marry" can be satisfied for all intents and purposes with civil unions. Then those people can take their dead home and bury them, fine.

There is never any satisfying them though. They cannot and will not be content with civil unions. They demand "marriage" not because they want equality, civil unions suffice for that, they want the satisfaction of having their vindictiveness gratified by insulting the rest of society by sullying the sanctity of marriage. That's all they really want, "SOCIAL JUSTICE." It's all about revenge with those people.

Oh BS, the coroner would probably like to confer with her actual family first given the disagreement surrounding such 'marriages'. Because of the varying state laws, in that state, the coroner believes, rightly so, that her FAMILY has say so over her corpse. Fanatical, overemotional jackasses over there. And yes, I understand where she is coming from. Anyone who has been close to someone yet is not legally tied tot hem in anyway would be distraut over having no say so in a situation like this...it is difficult, but her family would get first decisions.

The organization Santiago was a board member of, Amigas Latinas, has put out this statement:

Amig@s. We've seen a few posts asking folks to call the media because of a claim that Alisha's wishes aren't being respected because the tragedy took place in Indiana. This is NOT TRUE! We appreciate the passion for equality and justice on behalf of these mujeres, but everyone has been working together to honor Christina Santiago. Please intervene if you see this news...

As well, Ivonne Canellada, Administrative Assistant for Amigas Latinas, stopped by to comment on the post and say:

We would like to thank everyone for their kind words and would like to address this article. Apparently our Board Members have told me that this story is NOT true. You make a valid point, and I do agree with you; however, the only reason this is even making the news is because of their chosen sexuality. I don't think I have ever seen a story where the coroner's refusal to release a body to a non-family member was news.

Why the gays feel that their rights are more important than the LAWS mystifies me. I'm certainly sorry for this woman's loss, but legally she was NOTHING to the deceased and therefore has NO RIGHT to the remains. This is only a story because the gays want it to be.

This is so disgusting I got me a belly ache.

People of either sex that are friends know more about their friends then their family ever will.  Be they lovers or long time friend, they bond and do not face family rejection for their acts or ideas.

Who gives a Flying Pickle if the woman were loves or just the best of friends.    Same goes for heterosexuals that want to marry, bonds often stronger then Blood.

The decent and honorable thing to do when a family member dies is to ask those that are the beloved of the deceased what the family member would have wanted for after death arrangements.

Gays need to get their shit all in one sack as should Heterosexuals that intend to marry.  Get a Power of attorney, limited to death wishes or health care, the very notion that someone who hates their family for good reason has family given the right to block a loved one from a funeral service or refuse them entrance to visit them in a Hospital is EVIL.

This is not a Gay issue, this is an issue of the wishes of an individual that lost a loved one, and the wishes of the deceased.

Worse case of this I ever knew about was when a Firefighter had his wife walk out on him with their 3 kids. She sued for and got a divorce.  2 years down the road the EX met and fell in love with a woman, they bought a home together, he put his life insurance in her name, both of their names were on their cars, boats etc. 

3 weeks before their wedding He lost his life in a fire.       Upshot, the Ex-wife sued and the state of Virginia took the life insurance, and half of every thing he and his girlfriend had in joint names.

Reasoning was as he was now dead he could no longer pay child support, the kids also got his retirement check every month.

The bride to be, lost half of everything she owned, her house, cars and boats, checking a and savings accounts.

Moral of this sad affairs is,  One must cover their Ass when living with a loved one same sex or different.

JTY, I was in nursing in the early 1980's when the Aids came out and talk about hysteric's, Professionals were going nuts in hospitals, Doctors ,Dentists were refusing to treat anyone with this problem even down to little kids that were infected due to a blood transfusion.

Parents of infected kids were scared shitless to even enter a room their child lay in, this was the worse of times.

There is the untold tale of the woman married without their knowledge to a bisexual husband that contacted the virus from them, now that was a major bitch if she was pregnant at the time.
