R-E-S-P-E-C-T....just a little bit.
I have concluded that of all the critical issues facing America, facing candidates, public officials and voters, the most important one is the issue of RESPECT, or, better put, the loss thereof. We simply cannot expect to have a rational discussion of the challenges facing us as a country unless we have respect for eachother. Rick Perry's comments about the President and the Chair of the Federal Reserve drove that point home to me today. His suggestion that Texans would treat the President or the Chair of the Federal Reserve "ugly" is an insult to every Texan.

It is imperative, and a baseline qualification for running for the office of the President, that any candidate presume the patroitism and good intentions his/her opposition and of those serving our government. Anything less is grounds for disqualification. Candidates can question the policies and effectiveness of those in public office but they must always have respect in doing so. Not to do so shows a venal and reckless distain for our form of government, for what the Founding Fathers intended it to be and for every citizen.

When we jettison Respect from our public discourse, violence is not far behind.

Let's work to get the word and its meaning back into the public discourse.

Report from the "public square" in New Hampshire today.
In Fitzwilliam, at first a frosty reception. A well-heeled middle aged man told us he did not want to stop the war, he wanted to start another one. Nice! I hope you'll go, sir. A few other really snotty comments and then we attracted a crowd. We heard about peoples' health care problems, money problems, disgust with this lying President.

 I remember the Nixon Administration and Watergate well. When Nixon got elected for a second term, I was crushed and felt that there was no justice in the world...then he screwed up and there were consequences, even for the most powerful man in the world. I feel the same way about our presiding adolescent.

I had the bone spurs which were fine until I put in a suspended ceiling in my house...that shifted everything and pinched the nerves.

I found the pain to be terrible. Laura has probably had a bad time...not including having to endure the boy idiot husband.

Of all the issues, that's the one?  That's the issue that makes this country sink or swim?  Do you know anything about the rough and tumble history of this nation's politics?

Aside from your unreadable runon sentence, no it is not imperative.  It does not disqualify me from running for office if I stand up and say "my opponent hates America, and belongs to the Communist Party USA, and I can prove it."   In fact, if you presume good intentions, you may end up with something you really didn't want.

The United States presidential election of 1828 featured a rematch between John Quincy Adams, now incumbent President, and Andrew Jackson, the loser in the 1824 election.

It isn't the most comprehensive, but the History Channel created a series several years ago called "The Presidents".  I have them saved on my DVR, and watch them as I drift off to sleep, since I've seen them all multiple times.  Kinda hits the high/low points of every President, without partisan spin.  There have been some BRUTAL Presidential elections over the years. 

I suppose if I buy a Nook/Kindle/I-Pad or some device like that, maybe I'll start reading more history about the presidency since I find it so interesting.  One thing that has struck me by watching the series is that we've had a lot of mediocre to bad Presidents.
