Not to mention, shouldn't he have shaving cream on the unshaven side?

If he uses shaving cream. He might use KY or similar products.

And no. I'm not going there.

Original message I'm being interviewed for a fluffy feature article today--but I intend to go to a very dark place. (Your brain???) Today should be a very interesting day. A big paper here (1.4 million circulation)

Yeah, I was trying to figure that out, too.  But if he's in the shower he might not have a mirror, or he could be using a waterproof electric razor.

Either way, I've had times I had some anxiety about having to do certain work related things, but I've never missed shaving a whole side of my face because of it.  Not sure how you even do that because at some point before you get dressed you got to notice.  Probably has something to do with the Mydol he's taking.

Yikes!

I thought it was New Jersey.

Most likely I'm wrong. It just seems like every nutbag, fruitloop is from one of the NE states.

Portland & Eugene are moonbat enclaves. Moscow on the Willamette.

Ralph!  That was pretty funny.  They always have to exaggerate; it's such a loser thing to do.  Why can't they  just be straightforward and honest?  One can avoid looking like such a fool and an asshat if one just follows that simple rule.

Looks like he thinks the interview went well:

Quote
It was a really nice interview. I wasn't confrontational but made sure I got through on many levels how damaging the education budget cuts have been. I was charming (I think) witty (I think) and, if nothing else, I had a perfectly ironed shirt (thanks hubby!)

Had to rub in the gayness again, on top of showing off his ego.  Personally, based on his writing abilities, he was far less witty than he thinks he was.

Quote
They are setting up my date with the photographer and then, hopefully, people in my state will see how hard we teachers are working despite the budget cuts and despite the constant attacks against teachers and education.

I know how hard teachers work - 9 months out of the year.  No offense to teachers here, but lots of teachers I know don't work at all during their summer vacation.  I have news for buttsport, he doesn't work any harder than any other American, that's for damned sure.  But he thinks he is special, lol.

What really concerns me is that children might be in this guy's care during the school year.  I would worry about a gay liberal like this taking advantage of small children.

How much money do you people need to teach reading, writing, and arithmetic?  I don't know about other places, but 40% of our annual city budget goes to the public school system.  That's a lot of money.

I'm not 100% sure it's Oregon, though, and so you may be right.

But I'm pretty sure it's Oregon.

It'd be nice if someone who knows for sure enlightens us.
In the bouncy tale he wrote about his father a few months ago, he said he attended his father's high school "here in Oregon".

I learned calculus in a converted weight room.  No computers, no calculators, the classroom didn't even have windows.  We didn't give a rat's ass.  We learned math.  Nowdays, the school board has to have iPads, the teachers want each kid to have a computer, and the teachers want their viagra paid for so they can keep mauling underaged children.  Absolutely ridiculous.  Judging by the last presidential election, every teacher in America should be ashamed of their profession.

Same here... I learned algebra and calculus with a pencil and paper.  Education spending increases every year and every year the schools get worse (or the kids get dumber).

Today should be a very interesting day. A big paper here (1.4 million circulation) is interviewing me for one of those "local teacher does good" articles (I will be interviewed later this month by a respected magazine as well).
Got to thinking about that.
I suspect the advertising tabloids such as Greensheet or Thrifty Nickel, may have a nationwide circulation of 1.4M.
They're free for the taking at just about every convenience store in the country.
You can probably find the interview in the personals section under "Catchers Seeking Pitchers". :-)
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Good God, can you imagine what these kids would do if they were forced to (gasp!) learn to use a slide rule and plot their own trig/calc functions BY HAND!

I'm pleased to consign slide rules to the dustbin of history. Along with slow-speed, cord-driven dental drills, reusable hypodermic needles, and a daily tablespoon of cod liver oil, they're among my most indelible memories of days gone by. I still have the slide rule I used in college, which, I'm proud to say, I never wore on my belt. The only purpose I can see served by a slide rule is to visualize the concept of logarithms.

I knew a guy, an old engineer and a great fellow (RIP), who proved his innocence of a traffic ticket in court, using a slide rule.

Tell ya what--if a kid learned to use a slide rule first, it would in fact give a much greater appreciation and understanding of higher mathematical concepts.  Programmable calculators were just coming into use when I was in college (HP-41CV, anybody?) and most of the trig/math analysis we did in HS was BY HAND or slide rule--no calculators.  Maybe if the trig teacher was nice he'd let you use the trig tables for sine/cosine/tangent angle values.

When I was in recruiting, I saw HS kids who were in their SECOND year of HS calculus, but could only swing a 550 or so on the SAT I Math portion--the reason being is that they weren't drilled in the FUNDAMENTALS and became overly reliant on the calculator instead of their own (limited) knowledge, with predictable results.

790 math sat.  20 years later and I still brag about it, lol.  You should see how dumb the kids are these days in math.  They couldn't factor an equation if you held a gun to your head, and they have to stop and concentrate when adding or subtracting and they have to carry or borrow.  It blows their minds.  Again, teaching is an honorable profession and serves a crucial role in society - in theory.  In practice, the kids are getting dumber the more money we throw at them.

That's because the more money we spend on education, the more complicated schools decide to make it.  Rather than focusing on fundamentals like learning basic arithmatic, they make it complicated with "math labs" that may help kids visualize concepts better but don't force them to memorize and learn to do math in their head.  Rather than teaching spelling, they do a list of basic words, then have kids use "best guess" spelling for the rest.  When I was a teacher's assistant in a 2nd grade class, they had a list of word that they were expect to spell correctly, and the rest was up to them, and nobody corrected spelling and made them re-write it.

Yep, we had weekly lists of words to memorize (I don't, however, brag about the other half of my SAT, lol).  We memorized multiplication tables.  Spelling counted on everything in English class in middle and high school.  Even in college, our school had received feedback from businesses who hired graduates and said their number one complaint was lack of verbal and written communication skills.  In grad school, our papers were sent to English grad students who graded them.  It has only grown worse with the prominence of the texting slang that kids use these days.  But now I'm sounding like the old fart.

At the risk of being DUmmie-like, I'm going to quote myself from a a thread in the Election section:

Quote
Just a word about Bachmann..during lunch today I was reading an article in the Weekly Standard about her.  She got involved in politics mainly as a response to the educational system.  One day, one of her foster kids took out her 11th grade math homework.  It was a poster.  The assignment?  Color it in.

11th grade.  Math.

And just for the heck of it here is a math test site which I found at the dump the other day:

go here to take the test :

I had a W of .08 IIRC on the test (it gives a .pdf result file)

which came from this dump link:
