These are real quotes from people I know who are fundamentalist Christians and likely Tea Baggers. They were made in connection with small town government and what it should do for its citizens...whether it should continue to fund police, fire and public works. What you see here is a survivalist mentality, a mind-set that says "I'll take care of me and my own and the rest of you can fend for yourselfs[sic]." These are people who don't expect their girls and most of their boys to go past high school. Many of them home school and don't really put much stock in education. Take this microcosm and enlarge it and I think you'll discover the driving philosophy behind the Tea Party and it's[sic] grip on the nation today. These folks simply don't care about the larger community, they don't believe in a larger community, they think they can live very well without the larger community or any meaningful government. They don't value education (which is probably why the Pell Grant program became a sticking point in Washington last week).

When I asked one of the folks I quoted above whether he thought the town needed to continue to support its ambulance service, he shrugged and shook his head and said, "Listen, things happen, it's God's will."

This, I believe, is a snapshot of what we're dealing with on a national level.

1. many survivalists
 aren't doing it because it's insurance against the failure of the nation or world, they WANT the failure to happen and believe that they are uniquely situated to take advantage of such a failure. They envision a new world order with them on top (something they don't have now)

There is a problem with the DUmmie arguments.
1) Looters are cowards. They will not come with superior firepower. Looters will flee when the bullets start flying.
I saw the LA riots. The only places not looted were the places where the owners had guns. Shooting a looter did not result in prosecution.

2) If the govt comes with massive firepower to take the food from a survivalist...that food will NOT be handed out for free to DUmmies or distributed to the poor. It will go to Govt stores.

3) Most survivalists never tell their neighbors that they have stores of food. Nor do they mention just how well armed they are. DUmmie looters will never know who has food.

Conclusion: In a survival situation, DUmmies either starve or get shot. No one will feed them. Especially in a govt collapse as discussed here. If you do not work, you do not eat. End of story.

Newsflash.  I consider myself one of "those people."  I'd be willing to bet I'm far better educated and had a much higher GPA/SAT/whatever.  Care to put yours up, DUmmies?  And let's not get into the "we work harder" bull.  Most of ya'll don't even have jobs.

Oh, and Jane?  The reason people might homeschool is because, like me, we see the results of 50 years of "feel good" education where the teachers don't give a rat's ass about the students as long as they get their freebies (see Wisconsin.)  I have a 10-year old girl sitting here who has NO clue about the Constitution despite being taught history every year in school.  She can barely do math involving fractions.  Her spelling?  Fuggedaboutit.  And yet this girl gets A's and B's.  What's the greater crime, Jane?  Failing a kid for not performing, or simply shuffling them through the system until they're 18 and can't read/write/do basic math?  Hey, the kids can't read their diplomas or fill out a job application, but they feel GOOD about themselves, dammit!

So no, DUmmies--I don't mind educated people at all.  It's the INDOCTRINATED ones who piss me off.

And yet, year after year, a larger and larger percentage of public school students that enroll in Community Colleges require remedial courses in English and Math...while the percentage of homeschooled requiring remedial classes is close to zero.  I doubt my community is much different than any other across the country, most of our homeschooled kids to go on to college, and are routinely more successful than those from the public schools...and Kansas has a fairly decent public education.  (Comparing with the classes in the closest town in Oklahoma, my kid was always ahead of my co-workers' kids.  Compared with the school my older kids attended in Nebraska, my youngest is getting a far better public education.  The public school work and homework here compare pretty favorably with the homework from the private Christian school my 4th attended in Nebraska, and that private school was a year ahead of the local public school by 2nd grade.)

The problem with homeschooling - by DUmmy standards - isn't the quality of the overall education, it's the lack of brainwashing.  I do still have to watch my youngest in Science and other subjects and remind her that today's "facts" will not all be facts in a couple decades...
