Gingrich Regrets 2008 Climate Ad With Pelosi

Gingrich regrets 2008 climate ad with Pelosi
By Michael O'Brien - 07/26/11 08:10 AM ET

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said Tuesday that he regrets making a commercial with then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on the need to address climate change.

Gingrich, who partnered with Pelosi while she was Speaker for the 2008 ad, said the spot was "misconstrued," and for that reason, he wouldn't do it again.

"I was trying to make a point that we shouldn't be afraid to debate the left, even on the environment," Gingrich said on WGIR radio of the 30-second television commercial. "Obviously it was misconstrued, and it's probably one of those things I wouldn't do again."

That commercial has caused some difficulties for Gingrich in the Republican presidential primary. Pelosi is one of the most polarizing figures for primary voters, and the appearance of wanting to partner with such a political bogeyman has arguably hurt Gingrich with GOP voters.

Gingrich said in January that he "meant exactly what [he] said in that commercial," which was produced by the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit organization founded by former Vice President Al Gore (D). In the ad, Gingrich makes no endorsement of any policy solution, but says the "country must take action to address climate change."

Newt lost me after he caved to Clinton in 95.  Anybody that has their enemy on the ropes, quits, then plays nice with them, and makes a habit of sucking up to them is not the brightest bulb in the pack.

As far as his point being "misconstrued", well, I guess I'll just have to live with the knowledge that I'm too stupid to "get it" and I probably don't deserve his "leadership".

Actions have consequences, Newt.  You can't take that shit back.  Just get off the stage, nobody's buying tickets.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out, Newt. Or maybe let hit you and give you a concussion, since that's where your brain is.

Anyone who thinks that he is caving on his own and playing nice is also not the brightest bulb. No offense, and I don't support Gingrich, but to think they weren't paid heavily for that is naive.

Unless we get term limits throughout congress, we will always have a corrupt government. Heck, Boehner is being paid off right now. Our government is no longer ran by "the people" it's ran by "THE PEOPLE".

Translation: I'm sorry that you're offended.

This is where he lost me. Manmade global warming is a big fat hoax. It was a hoax back in the 70s when global warming was going to cause the next ice, and it's a hoax now. And for Newt to get sucked into it and end up making an ad with Pelosi of all people is just insane. He can denounce this ad all he wants, but if he continues to be duped by the environmentalist kooks, he might as well just drop out now.

Oh, and it certainly didn't help when he said, "The era of Reagan is over".

The problem with getting term limits is the people that will be voting for term limits are the ones that will be affected by term limits.

I'm ALL for term limits; I just don't think we have enough politicians with balls to try it. If it affects you, they'll screw you over in a heart beat. If it affects them and their power, that's a different story. It's why I have such disdain for "politicians" but utmost respect for "statesmen". ....and I can only think of a few right now. Nikki Haley, IMO, is a perfect example.

Some proof, please.

Here is a video of him admitting to taking tobacco bribes. Like I've said before, I live in his district and have been voting for him for 20yrs. The sad fact is, he's been bought. He's a prime example of why we need term limits in congress. Now also notice in this video that the two speaking out against him are also republicans. Actually one is the great NFL wide reciever Steve Largent. But, every time I say anything about conservatives doing something wrong, I am accused of being a liberal. I am far from that. Actually, I am an independant conservative tea partier. So, here's proof and if you think he has suddenly stopped taking bribes, then you are kidding yourselves.

Whether it's direct bribes, campaign donations, political favors, or whatever, that shit needs to stop. They need term limits so they can take their asses back to their districts and live with the consequences of their votes. When the nation was founded, a lot of this shit wouldn't happen because the politicians had their own land, wealth, etc. they had to protect. These days the assholes go to D.C. for the sole PURPOSE of enriching themselves and they've put measures in place to shield them from most of the shit that affects the American people. Do they pay SS? Don't they have their own retirement that, upon serving ONLY 2 terms, they get to collect on? Aren't they protected from insider trading laws as seen here? These assholes went from "representative" to nobles while we, the plebes, are stuck as f'n serfs. This shit needs to end.

Okay, you made a claim that Newt Gingrich was bribed to fold like an old t shirt on laundry day back in 1995.

I want proof.

You also said that Speaker Boehner is being paid to cave in on the debt ceiling deal.

Again, I want proof.

Posting a video about taking tobacco money is nice, but I want something directly related to him being paid off to throw the vote on the debt ceiling.

I admit that I don't have it. I also am not naive enough to think that he would suddenly stop taking bribes. He just quit doing it on the house floor. Look, I am not a conspiracy guy. But I am not dumb either. You can believe what you want. But most, if not all, tea partiers are not supporting Boehners debt plan. He went from Cut, cap and balance to a plan that has no cuts in it but raises the debt ceiling. The so-called cuts in his plan are spread through ten years. They are supposed to pass a budget every year, which means that they don't have to stick with the plan from the previous year. The blank check to Obama happens right now. Tell me why he would do this. The proof is in front of your face. Boehner is a sell out. But your lack of effort to find out for yourself leads me to believe that you are a sheep to the republican party. No one believed me about Agenda 21, but once I proved it over and over, I also didn't get a thank you. I am tired of doing the research for you. I truly hope you stay conservative, but I also hope you get your head out of the sand. Lifetime politicians are bought, period.

So, you were talking out of your ass, got it, that's pretty much what I figured.

Yet, you can't prove that he is being bribed to tank the debt ceiling vote.  We already have one group in this country that relies on assumptions to guide them and it isn't the TEA Party.

Maybe you should consider it, you seem to have a good head start.

I will believe what can be verified either through source documentation or my own personal experience, thank you.  Anything else needs to be presented.

Quote
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has released its analysis of the revised Budget Control Act of 2011 today, and CBO’s analysis confirms that the spending cuts are greater than the debt hike – affirming that the House GOP bill meets the critical test House Republicans have said they will insist upon for any bill to raise the nation’s debt ceiling. Specifically, the CBO analysis confirms the Republican plan will:

    * Cut and cap spending by $917 billion over 10 years – that’s more than the $900 billion debt hike;

    * Cut $22 billion in spending for FY2012 and hold spending below FY2010 levels until FY2016;

    * Continue reducing discretionary spending each year compared to President Obama’s budget (by $96 billion in 2012, $118 billion in 2013, $115 billion in 2014, $117 billion in 2015, and so on); and

    * Require Congress to draft proposals that produce reductions of at least $1.8 trillion that help protect programs like Medicare and Social Security from bankruptcy.

No legislation has been ratified nor signed into law.  As much as I may disagree with the Speaker, bless his cry-baby heart, I have to hand it to him for standing pretty damned tough.  This legislation isn't everything at once but it's a damned good start.  We didn't get here in one stroke of the pen, we won't get back with one.

Your opinion notwithstanding...

The matter of "term limits" are best left to the people who hire and fire politicians (ie district voters).  I am not now, nor will I ever be, in favor of putting the responsibility of legislating "term limits" in the hands of the very people that are being limited.  That would be beyond stupid.
