November of next year is a long way off, he'll have the wind at his back with the MSM, and a billion-dollar war-chest is pretty tough to overcome, but man, if we don't we're soooooo screwed.
I think that the money will be there. I was reading that Obama's war chest is averaging about $60 per donor, which means that the big contributors (most of whom he's attacked for the bulk of his term) are not in yet. It's getting no press but his high-dollar fundraisers are (so far) poorly attended.
I suspect that the big corporate and institutional money is waiting to see how the Republican candidate field is shaping up. It was the same with GWB in '98 and '99. The big donors (and GWB) came out of nowhere in the last twelve months of the campaign. Let us not forget that SCOTUS gutted McCain-Feingold, so as the DUmmies say "corporate personhood" is going to play a big role in 2012 fundraising.
I see this as shaping up thusly:
Obama has no successful record to run on.......he has screwed up everything he has touched. He can't run on "I'm not George Bush" any longer, "Hope and Change" ain't gonna cut it, the wars are still ongoing, and with unemployment and energy prices not very likely to change much in the next year, the only alternative is for him to spend a ton on "negative" and "attack" ads, which work, but only for a short time, until the public figures out that there is nothing substantial being offered by the candidate.
The Republicans conversly have an entire arsenal filled with ammunition......and millions of pissed-off Americans, particularly those that are out of work. It's not going to be a pretty campaign, but assuming that we don't end up with the "Boston Strangler" as our candidate, I see a Republican winning in a walk.......money only helps when you have a message.......Obama really doesn't have one.
