I just got the sh*t beat out of me.
   
I'm scratched, bruised and my shirt is completely torn open. The next time you hear someone tell you teachers don't get paid enough I want you to share my story. I earn every damned penny of my whopping $40,000 salary.

One of my students blew out today. He punched my assistant in the face and when I intervened he went after me with every bit of strength in his body. He hit me with a pencil sharpener and then grabbed a sharpened pencil like a knife and came at me. I backed across the room and he kept lunging and stabbing at me. I tossed a chair in his way and in that moment of distraction, went for his arm.

In my mind there were two movies playing--one reviewing the training I have had in the accepted "legal" way of protecting myself and, at the same time, a picture of that pencil getting stabbed into my arm. Most humans, if threatened by being stabbed would be thinking of themselves. As a teacher you don't have that luxury. If I injure a student protecting myself it will be front page news and I might be out of a job AND still have a danged pencil sticking out of my arm.

But I was able to catch his hand. He was pummeling me with his free hand, trying to hit me in the face but my assistant and I finally got the pencil out of his hand. The student probably has 85 pounds on my assistant but I have him by 20 lbs. We then spent the next hour and a half being hit, kicked, scratched, spit on, head-butted, bit at, cursed at, pinched and pretty much thoroughly beaten. He threw his shoes, furniture, ripped my shirt and used pretty much every filthy word I have ever heard.

When his parent showed up his first question was whether he was still going to get to go out to dinner tonight. My guess is, as I sit here beat up, he is out eating Teriyaki Tuesday.

Since it is part of his disability I can't suspend him either. So I just have to hope tomorrow goes better.

The worst part is my hubby will be home in a bit and he is going to see the bruises and scratches. The look on his face when I come home like this is always the worst. It scares him and I hate to be the cause of that. He won't ask what happened and I'll just pretend I'm not bleeding. It will be a quiet evening without much of our usual laughing and goofing around.

God, I hope tomorrow is an easier day.

This student has mental disabilities and cannot be suspended? That doesn't seem right. If he poses a danger to himself or others, get him committed.

I detect some BS in this tall tale.

I'd believe it, the schools locally won't suspend kids who are a different race, disabled in anyway, etc.

That's Canada though. Years ago I remember reading about Canadian little league baseball. Players were rotated at every position to keep the inept from getting their feelings hurt and to keep the gifted from dominating the game. According the the league, the score didn't matter as long as everyone played.

Sure it's Canada, but I can't imagine most of America is too far behind when it comes to that type of thing.

My guess, purely speculation, is that DUmmy snotspout stopped at an interstate rest stop on his way home from work for a little quick mens' room romance. Some great-looking, muscular young man excited his gaydar to such an extent that that DUmmy snotspout reached over into the neighboring urinal to help the young man hold steady. The young man was an extremely heterosexual United States Marine, home on leave. He expressed his displeasure to DUmmy snotspout in an exceptionally vigorous way. If it were a bouncy, the other men in the restroom would have been applauding the Marine. Now DUmmy snotspout needs a cover story for his homo housemate.

I am usually not a headline reader but will admit I was one here, I did not read the entire thread prior to posting.  I read the thread.  He is an attention whore.

He works in a classroom of students with severe behaviors.  This student clearly does not have a proper behavior plan in place, and this putz -- while claiming to have sufficient restraint training, OBVIOUSLY has nothing of the sort.   Mr. Fantastic doesn't have a clue how to write curriculum necessary for this student to learn self-regulation. 

Snoutpout, if you worked in my district you would be out of a job.      Posting this account on the internet is disgusting, as you clearly are.  Your comments about the restaurant are a clear indication how much you actually loathe this position.  Get another job, while you state this job inspires you so, you are not suited for the demands of it.

snoutport must be grossly overweight. Even assuming a light 140 pounds for the assistant, the student would be at 225, putting snoutportly around 245.
