Since when does a cynical, mean- spirited, hate- filled, ignorant, vile, heartless, Christophobic ultra- bigot like Bill Maher have any business lecturing us on what it means to be a Christian? He deliberately promotes lies and stereotypes about Christians, and deliberately encourages hatred against them on a regular basis, as well as just being an awful human being on many different levels, so his opinion on what it means to be a Christian is worth less than nothing.
Over the last few months, I spent each Tuesday volunteering at a homeless kitchen/ distribution center (I wouldn't call it a "Shelter," as it only serves that function if the temperature drops to below 40 degrees), and I think a modern- day version of Christ's parable of the rich man and Lazarus could be made by comparing Maher to any one of the dear people I served there who have almost nothing materially yet are truly rich in Christ.
What is with this Gandhi worship? Gandhi was a hard core racist who did nothing for the Dalits or "Untouchables" of India. He even furthered Apartheid in South Africa. Some Hindus think Gandhi was pro-Muslim.
Indeed. A lot of people forget that, for instance, with his whole train seating protest, it all started because he felt he was too good to be moved from his train compartment and made to sit with the common black Africans riding the train.
Gandhi was a remarkable man who did a lot of good for a lot of people, to be sure, but even good men have their flaws. Lincoln was much the same way; He believed blacks were inferior to whites, his involvement with the Emancipation Proclamation and all that was simply because he was against the very concept of slavery itself.
