The top 10 movies people lie about having seen
« on: May 12, 2011, 08:30:34 AM »
Quote
British movie rental company Lovefilm recently released the results of a reader poll that asked which films people lied about having seen.  They found that four out of five people had lied about what movies they’d seen to impress people. The Godfather topped their list of most lied about, with almost a third of people reporting that they’d pretended to have seen it.  Here’s the full list:

    1. The Godfather (30 per cent)
    2. Casablanca (13 per cent)
    3. Taxi Driver (11 per cent)
    4. 2001: A Space Odyssey (9 per cent)
    5. Reservoir Dogs (8 per cent)
    6. This Is Spinal Tap (7 per cent)
    7. Apocalypse Now (6 per cent)
    8. Goodfellas (5 per cent)
=8. Blade Runner (5 per cent)
    10. The Great Escape (4 per cent) [PressAssociation via SlashFilm] ...

I have seen 1,5 and 6. Honest!  :-)  But I can't imagine any of my friends being impressed about me seeing the others.

Ten minutes into #6, I fell asleep. The little I saw of it was BORING.

I've seen Goodfellas and The Great Escape all the way through. The others? Only snippets here and there.

I haven't seen #1 or #10.  I think I tried to watch #9 but never finished.

I don't think I've ever sat down and watched Taxi Driver from start to finish, and I've never seen Spinal Tap.

The rest I've seen.

Why would anyone lie about seeing a movie?

I saw on the internet recently that Reservoir Dogs is being remade. I remember seeing it the first time and it was considered to be very bloody and intense at that time. With all of today's special effects....not sure I could sit through it again.

To seem cool, I guess.  I happily acknowledge that I haven't seen certain films.

Out of the ones listed, I've only seen Blade Runner.

I've never seen It's a wonderful life, nor have I seen Citizen Kane.

I have seen them all except for these:

3. Taxi Driver (11 per cent)
4. 2001: A Space Odyssey (9 per cent)
5. Reservoir Dogs (8 per cent)

I have seen parts of them but never start to finish.

Taxi Driver was very... odd.  The pacing in 2001 was slow, but it is a good movie as far as old science fiction films go.

I tried to watch Reservior Dogs, but it was boring.

I've seen them all. (Bogie didn't say "Play it again, Sam.") I love movies from the 30's & 40's.  Didn't like Taxi Driver, 2001 or Blade Runner.

I've seen all but Reservoir Dogs, about which I know nothing and has never come up in a conversation with anyone I know.  I am not absolutely positive that I've seen Spinal Tap and Goodfellas start to finish in one sitting, but they're both pretty episodic and I've seen all the pieces at one time or another.

I've seen all but Reservoir Dogs, about which I know nothing and has never come up in a conversation with anyone I know.

There's a great scene near the beginning of the movie where the "world's smallest violin" phrase makes an appearance, as said by Steve Buscemi about waitresses and their lack of income:

Quote
I'm very sorry the government taxes their tips, that's ****ed up. That ain't my fault. It would seem to me that waitresses are one of the many groups the government ****s in the ass on a regular basis. Look, if you ask me to sign something that says the government shouldn't do that, I'll sign it, put it to a vote, I'll vote for it, but what I won't do is play ball. And as for this non-college bullshit I got two words for that: learn to ****in' type, 'cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent you're in for a big ****in' surprise.

George Peppard was a complete dismal failure in that film. He came off looking like a college preppie right out of Yale and thrown into the trenches of WWI, instead of being a normal German young man.

Hardy Kruger would've been a far, far better actor.
