That's one of those haunting songs.  I love it, yet it almost makes me cry when I hear it.

Coast to Coast AM uses that song as intro/exit music between segments sometimes.

I have to admit, that song always annoyed the shit out of me.  The uekelele version is that much worse.  :p

I noticed that one of the Idol finalists sang that version. I watched Idol tonight and I am completely stunned by the talent of the guy finalists. I don't even know which one is my favorite, they all have very unique sounds.

I saw that one.  It was that Jason Castro from Rockwall, Tx. - the one with the dreadlocks.  It was a good moment for AI.

Years ago I was at a dumpy C&W bar in Ft. Worth.  The music was canned for the most part and it was a true shit-kicker's paradise.  Towards the late hour, one of the pudgy middle-aged waitresses pulled out a harpsichord, sat up on the bar, and sang "Rainbow".  It was incredible.  There wasn't a dry eye in the shack.  She was better than Patsy Cline.

It was one of those life's little special moments.  It left me wondering how a woman with so much talent could be working for a living slinging beer in a dingy bar on the wrong side of Ft. Worth, Tx.

I've just never really got into the whole American Idol thing.  I was watching Family Guy on TBS.  :)  I'm sure they have a clip of that guy on Youtube, I'm gonna go look.

Thanks you, sweetheart.  It was a lovely gift and a gentle way to go to sleep.

Watching the images and hearing that wonderful singer gave me real nostalgia for Hawai'i.  I have been to Hawai'i many times (mostly Kauai and Maui) and recognized more than a few of the spots shown.

I especially remember 25 years ago or so, when I went for the first time (Princeville, Kaua'i).  The first night there was a massive squall which I thought would rip right though the condo I was renting.  But after a night of that, in the morning all was clear and I made some coffee (Kona, of course) and wandered out onto the lana'i, which looked toward the mountain.  And there I saw the most beautiful double rainbow I had ever seen (or have since).  It was like they were solid bars of color.  I think I sat there for 2 hours, thinking nothing, just watching that rainbow ever so slowly fade away.  I also think it is the last time I have ever successfully shut my brain down and merely enjoyed something for its own sake.

And if you have been there, you know the never to be forgotten fragrance of Kaua'i and Maui.

I will always have a special love for Hawai'i in general and Kaua'i in particular. Next time I go I want to split time between Kaua'i the Big Island (which I have yet to visit).

Sleep well with dreams of the sights, sounds and smells of the islands.

Aloha auinapo

That's accurate, Red. It's sad that we can even buy a product without a lovely face attached to it.
