Here's something else I happened across on YouTube.  Anyone can do this.  Open the pdf file on the White House website, highlight the five-digit number on the upper right, and then zoom in.  You'll notice something very odd.  Here's a screen shot:



Why does that last "1" look like that compared to the other four digits?

There are obviously some real problems with this new document, I think the real reason they put it out is they can now shout "lalalalalalalalalala" every time the issue is raised from here on out.

Sounds to me like it was 2 seperate hospitals, niether of which were named what's on his BC, until 1978.

Incredible... you don't even have to know what the hell you're doing to see the different layers in this "copy".

1. Save the PDF from the White House link and open.
2. Highlight and copy the main part of the PDF file.
3. Paste the results into Microsoft Paint and see for yourself.

Oh, and this document was "created" using Mac OSX 10.6.7 as it clearly says in the file properties.  Why such a fancy computer to create a simple PDF?

I opened it in Photoshop and don't see any separate layers like you would normally create in PS, but its obvious that there's something flawed about this file.

(5) Upon request of a law enforcement agency certifying that a new birth certificate showing different information would provide for the safety of the birth registrant; provided that the new birth certificate shall contain information requested by the law enforcement agency, shall be assigned a new number and filed accordingly, and shall not substitute for the birth registrant’s original birth certificate, which shall remain in place.

(b) When a new certificate of birth is established under this section, it shall be substituted for the original certificate of birth. Thereafter, the original certificate and the evidence supporting the preparation of the new certificate shall be sealed and filed. Such sealed document shall be opened only by an order of a court of record. I just asked a professional about that image above and she said this

No problem. Actually, if you open the PDF up in Adobe Acrobat you can zoom in to 800% or 1600% and see the same thing.

To answer your question, yes, I do see this. There are a handful of characters in the document that display in this seemingly odd way. The original birth cert from 50 yrs ago was written with a type writer (obviously), and this doc was at some point scanned for permanent archiving. The characters where the type key struck the paper good and hard resulted in a jaggy letter (as the ones on the left of your image) when it was scanned -- basically, the scanning software gave those pixels a value of 100% color. For the few letters which look pixelated ("anti-aliased"), I think the type writer key didn't strike as hard, so the letter was a bit lighter. The scanning software didn't give this a value of 100% color, and instead tried to smooth it making it look all pixelated. If you notice, the pencil marks look similiar, which makes sense since pencil is pretty light.

Anyway, that's my interpretation looking at the image. I can see why someone would think it suspect, but based on my years of experience with scanners it just looks like a run of the mill, low resolution scan.

I don't know about Hawaii, but I know Illinois allows for Birth Certificates to be changed. When I joined the Navy, I had a copy of mine and it said "baby boy" in place of a name, because I wasn't named for a couple of days.  However, I went to get another copy last year and it now had my full name on it.

I asked the clerk about it and she did a quick search and said that it had been changed at the request of the D.O.D. in 1980, the year I joined the Navy.

It does look like a crappy scan, but that doesn't explain why the PDF offered by the White House has multiple layers with the doctor and parents signatures being separate from the background layer that makes up most of the birth certificate.

I find it remarkable that this document was trotted out now. This could have been done at any point over the past three years, going back to the beginning of the '08 campaign.

But no, instead he spent millions out of his own pocket to bury this deeper than an offshore oil well. NOT the actions of an honest man, especially one who espouses "transparency".

Timing is everything in show business and politics. I feel it is no coincidence that we are given this now, on the eve of the royal wedding. Once the media circus in London kicks into high gear this birth certificate thing will be gone like a fart in the wind.

PDF Layers in Obama’s Birth Certificate

We have received several e-mails today calling into question the validity of the PDF that the White House released, namely that there are embedded layers in the document. There are now several other people on the case. We looked into it and dismissed it.

The PDF is composed of multiple images. That’s correct. Using a photo editor or PDF viewer of your choice, you can extract this image data, view it, hide it, etc. But these layers, as they’re being called, aren’t layers in the traditional photo-editing sense of the word. They are, quite literally, pieces of image data that have been positioned in a PDF container. They appear as text but also contain glyphs, dots, lines, boxes, squiggles, and random garbage. They’re not combined or merged in any way. Quite simply, they look like they were created programmatically, not by a human.

What’s plausible is that somewhere along the way — from the scanning device to the PDF-creation software, both of which can perform OCR (optical character recognition) — these partial/pseudo-text images were created and saved. What’s not plausible is that the government spent all this time manufacturing Obama’s birth certificate only to commit the laughably rookie mistake of exporting the layers from Photoshop, or whatever photo editing software they are meant to have used. It’s likely that whoever scanned the birth certificate in Hawaii forgot to turn off the OCR setting on the scanner. Let’s leave it at that.

UPDATE: I’ve confirmed that scanning an image, converting it to a PDF, optimizing that PDF, and then opening it up in Illustrator, does in fact create layers similar to what is seen in the birth certificate PDF. You can try it yourself at home.
