Point taken, and I thought of that when I chose my examples. I cooked Vesta's idea down to what I believe to be its basest form, which is how are we to judge anyone, on anything, ever, since our moral compass is not any better than theirs.
My examples weren't perfect, and could be a construed as a bit straw-mannish, but that is the price you pay for crawling into Vesta's head and trying to make sense of what you see.
Ouch
I was speaking indeed of all things banned in a town of some religious and not so religious folk everywhere.
Dry Counties in the South, towns in the North West where one is not allowed to smoke anywhere in public, towns that ban hand guns. France will now ban woman from wearing a face covering in public, some malls ban anyone from wearing a scarf as they in some places are a gang symbol.
Some schools ban the wearing of a Crucifix or Star of David but the Muslim girls can wear their scarfs.
Some towns ban dogs if the breed has a bad reputation, right here in the USA.
Lots of odd things are baned in all societies because it is the PEOPLE themselves that demand it.
In no way was I speaking of humans being banned although small towns do have a way to run out of town the homeless.
How the Hell my post came to be confused with banning humans of a different stripe is beyond me.
Is this not what Democracy is, the gathering of people that take a vote on what they feel is tolerable or not to the comunity.???
Say, it is rare for me to drive through a town on a Sunday Morning and hear the 11 O'clock bells on a Christian Church ring out the call to prayer. I figure it is considered a nuisance to the neighborhood that wants to sleep in until noon.
When a society wishes to make laws for their chosen towns and the majority agree on the laws, we may become confused and feel they are wrong, but, it is the citizens that live there that make the laws and if some do not agree they move out to an environment that more suites them.
Why the heck do you think we went West into the wilderness to make our own towns against hostile Indians, risked it all to live free and build a country.
Jumping frog legs, if humans on the other side of the earth decide they do not want dogs, hogs or snakes in their town and most agree, who the heck are we to tell them they are wrong.??????????? They freaking live there we don't, but we cannot get around the fact that if the majority of the people approve of the ban, then they are without their knowledge practicing a form of Democracy.
