...to let the country go into default.

The dems are putting this off and demagoguing it for all that it is worth. They have their base and they refuse to give it up out of self-interest.

The public says, "Cut the pie, just not my slice!" We can talk and reason and beg all we want. You certainly can't drag people by their heels into freedom.

The GOP just doesn't have the balls. They cut .0001% off of last year's budget and quail over the shellacking they took in the press about "draconian cuts." If 1/10,000th is too much to ask from them than a full 50% back to 2008 levels will surely paralyze them.

Every one refuses to scale back entitlements.

OK, fine.

At this point I honest believe the ship of state has too much forward momentum to keep it off the iceberg ahead. Here's the ****ing check book; do it your way. Let's party on the way out.

In 10 years we will be flat busted and you'll lose your entitlements by default. At that point we will win by default. The only programs left will be those we actually need and are constitutionally mandated, i.e. defense and civil order.

Sure our currency will be wiped out. There will be rampant lawlessness and people will literally starve in the streets.

meh...we told 'em

Don't worry about China. As soon as they realize they were taken for a $5TN and we're too broke to buy their shit they will fold as well.

The illegals will be run out. Families will once again be forced to care for their own rather than push them off on to the bureaucrats. Work and education will be the highest virtues of well-being. The self-indulgence of our spoiled brat society will give way to self-reliance and mistrust of government.

In a generation or two after we climb out of our pit someone will then say, "Maybe we need an entitlement program" and he will be summarily beaten to death on the spot.

Perhaps what conservatives need to do is to stop trying to right a ship already headed for the inevitable. Perhaps what we need to do is begin networking to provide the social and material support the properly self-reliant advocate.

  • Spread the work ethic; the wealth will follow.
Agreed.  Let's have it over.  This from one who wouldn't mind being a casualty in a worthwhile struggle.

In a generation or two after we climb out of our pit someone will then say, "Maybe we need an entitlement program" and he will be summarily beaten to death on the spot.

I seriously read this at first as

"he will be summarily eaten to death on the spot."

To which my first reaction would be "a fitting end".

I'm good either way, really.

While I sympathize with your frustration, and feel it myself, it's unworkably simplistic and more or less like regarding amputation as the preferred treatment for concussion.

Perhaps a better analogy would be trying to stop an alcoholic from taking that one last drink you know will become toxic to him. He's already too inebriated to be reasoned with and short of tackling him and forcing him into detox--which itself may kill him--he cannot be saved from his own behavior. Only of he bottoms out, assuming he survives, will he realize he needs help.

IMO, this country will indeed go into default.  It's merely a matter of when.

Let the nation go into default ????

 :rotf:

We've been insolvent for the last year.

Of course, we could always sell California to Mexico. They could borrow the money from China, pay us for the state, then we could repay China.

Wait. Nope. As soon as the idiots in Washington got their hands on the money, they'd pizz it away with new entitlements for illegals.

Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.
John F. Kennedy

No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!

I'm to the point that I'm anxiously awaiting it.  "When it takes a wheelbarrow full of "money" to buy a loaf of bread, the man who has the means to make his own bread will be the wealthiest", is an adage that I live by.

Did I mention I'm buying 35 acres and critters?

Not because of this scenario but because I want it instead of a (sub)urban existence.

Ptarmigans, they're quite tasty, I hear.

Chickens, goats. Smaller ones.

I have a barn, etc to build over the summer before I can get a cow or few.

Awesome.  At least one milk cow would be a must.  I've never been found of goat milk.
