I have a card carrying Cherokee Okie in my house. Hubby was born and raised in N.E. Ok.

Well, Tahlequah IS the capitol of the Western Cherokee nation.  :cheersmate:

Half English and the other half a mix of Scottish, German, and some other European stuff.  The family name is Scottish.

Black Dutch, and Sottish. My ancestors came over on the Mayflower. I've researched it back. You will find my last name on the manifest.

It's hilarious how many "Cherokees" we have here. Here in OK, we actually know which tribe, be it Kiowa, Cheyenne, etc. we are descended from.  :rotf:

Sorry bro, but Cherokees didn't originate in OK. They were forced there by Old Hickory after being screwed on the Trail of Tears. They were one of the, IIRC, 5 civilized tribes....and COMPLETELY f'ed over.

Very interesting thread!

For what it's worth, saw this floating around somewhere in cyberspace a while back-

Barack Obama's genealogical make-up

Caucasian- 50%
Arabic-      44%
African-       6%

Can't see that. Looking at his dad, there is NO Arabic in Senior.

Yeah, I know. Ya'll all may be Cherokee blood, I really don't know. It is just an old joke here about when someone is "Cherokee" they know they are of Indian blood, but not sure which tribe. The 5 "Civilized" (nowadays they say "Expelled", or something similar, tribes instead) were the Chickasaw, Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole.

For what it's worth, I'm related to Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Celine Dion, Camilla, Hillary......

My grandparents had our geneolagy books researched before any of this was discovered. Even before some of them were born. I knew this when it was just family history.. Now it's  "oh wow...they're related!" I"m at the same level in the tree as them but I'm not famous.

YEP!! Most of the Cherokee were from Georgia, Alabama & Mississippi originally. Jackson STOLE their land at gunpoint and forced them west of the Mississippi.  Jackson was another DEMOCRAT president that thought he was better than the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruled that what Jackson did to the Cherokee was against the laws of the land. As far as his Presidency, he and 0bamao seem very similar. I don't think Jackson went on vacation as much and there weren't any Muslims to appease. The big difference is that Jackson WAS a war hero. The Democratic Party's mascot was started after Jackson's nickname, "Jackass".

Actually, the Cherokee were from Appalachia, NC, E TN, etc. The Muskogee-Creek were the main inhabitants of the most populated areas of GA and the Choctaw were all over Mississippi.

On my Mom's side I'm three quarters Hungarian and one quarter German.  My grandparents LEGALLY immigrated to the USA in the '20's.  So, on my maternal side I'm a second generation American.
Dad's side is more mixed.  His ancestors, depending on which branch we're talking about, came over to the USA a century or more before the Revolution.  They fought on both sides of the Civil War.  Scottish, English, German, and a dash of Irish (one Flannary ancestor identified and that was in the 1700's).
Through Dad, I can trace my family back to European royalty, big whoop as at least one fourth and maybe even one half of all European-Americans can do the same, if they find the connection through research, of course.  IIRC George Washington is my 7th cousin 17 times removed.  Yeah, I know, not at all impressive. :-)
Sneaking into a country doesn't make you an immigrant any
more than breaking into someone's house makes you part of the family.

Amen brother! They were land owners, puttin' up with the gubmint, makin' a livin' just like the pioneers. Jackson totally screwed 'em over and took their land away and force fed them into reservation life.

Jackson was one of the worst back stabbin' pricks in American history. He used them to kick ass in 1812 against the British, then turned on 'em and made them third class citizens, worse than what the Negros were goin' thru at the time! It's a pretty pathetic story!

What's an insult to them to this day, is havin' his portrait on the $20 bill! I've heard the Cherokee nation won't even use them! Can't say as I blame 'em!!!

Paternal- French/Shawnee/Cherokee

Arrived here in the early 1600's with Champlain; title bestowed by Henri.  General John * was a boy soldier in the Revolutionary War, Senator, and Brigadier General of the 4th Brigade, 1812. He was one of the first settlers in what became Greenville,SC. Throw in Blue Jacket, Tecumseh and some business deals with Thomas Jefferson.

Maternal- Scot/Welsh (traces back to Vikings); clan of Robert the Bruce' mother.

A relative spent 30+ years tracing dad's side and published two volumes. It reads like a history book, all my kids and grandkids have use it for school reports.

I'm probably related to Boudicca  :lmao:

My daddy used to tell me when I asked. "Your halfway between a ni***r and an old oak tree" So that make me am American I guess.
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

Many in the Creek Nation won't. They are still livid over Jackson's actions in Alabama.

I saved a section of a white oak tree that I cut down in our yard. That was in 1997.

I counted the rings 8 times, and that oak took root back in 1791. I've used colored pins to show important years for the family tree, including the years of births, deaths, and wars our country was involved in. Our grandkids - all 6 of them - have used it in their classrooms for "show and tell."

Those days are past, so now it'll just be another part of the family history when I leave this earth.

I didn't even know it was still considered a legit tribe.  My DIL's father is Apache and her Mom, I never can remember, Neah Bay WA Makah I think.  She was denied a card from the Apache's because a grandmother at some point was Irish.  Her father is on the tribal council, still not good enough to carry a card even though she grew up on a rez and has the relatives in prison to prove it  :whistling:
