I didn't even know it was still considered a legit tribe.  My DIL's father is Apache and her Mom, I never can remember, Neah Bay WA Makah I think.  She was denied a card from the Apache's because a grandmother at some point was Irish.  Her father is on the tribal council, still not good enough to carry a card even though she grew up on a rez and has the relatives in prison to prove it  :whistling:

It is easier with the 5 Nations. If your family is on the Dawes' Rolls, and you can prove lineage, you get the card. The latterly suppressed tribes, Apache, Cheyenne, Comanche, etc. have other qualifying mechanisms, tribal government approval, etc. for admission into the tribal rolls.

Paternal.....my dad's mom was born and raised in Scotland (her mother's side had their own island), went to England to "finishing school" and ended up teaching there and met my grandfather (his family was from the Manchester area) there. They legally immigrated to Ohio in early 1921 and my dad was born in that fall.

Maternal...I don't know too much, other than my grandfather's father(may have been his grandfather) immigrated from England...and shortened their very "English" surname for some reason. My grandmother's family was also English. I was told that they all came over after the Civil War.

One of these days, I need to really spend time researching the family. I know when I was young, there was quite a bit of family over in England and Scotland, as my grandparents would go back and visit.

Dumbass Tanker, your dad was half dog?   :-)

Scottish and Welsh, a real WASP.  Someone dabbled with a Cherokee along the way though, so I tan real easily.

No, and I believe someone else mentioned that ethnicity in their run-down, as well.  Are you saying your ancestors were gettin' it on in the back of a Jeep SUV?

I'm a hodge podge. One great grandmother was Welsh, one great grandfather was Scottish, and one great grandfather was German.  The rest were mostly English, with some Irish, and one French Duke that fled the French Revolution.  I've had ancestors on American soil since before the American Revolution so a little bits of various nationalities seem to have been mixed in along the way.

Hell, you might be a cousin.   :-)

My mother's ancestors were moved to Oklahoma from North Carolina and Eastern TN during the relocation act.  Her grandparents were both 1/2 Cherokee (not sure of the tribe but my mom may know).  My grandfather and his siblings were born in Sand Springs, OK, and at some point they all moved to Yell Co, AR.

My great grandfather would not own up to being a half breed until later in life. His daughter and her cousin pressed the issue, however, and he and my great grandmother were finally registered.

My great grandparents were 1st cousins.  That, plus being born in AR makes me a prime candidate for inbred Arkansas jokes

Paternal- French/Shawnee/Cherokee

Arrived here in the early 1600's with Champlain; title bestowed by Henri.  General John * was a boy soldier in the Revolutionary War, Senator, and Brigadier General of the 4th Brigade, 1812. He was one of the first settlers in what became Greenville,SC. Throw in Blue Jacket, Tecumseh and some business deals with Thomas Jefferson.

Maternal- Scot/Welsh (traces back to Vikings); clan of Robert the Bruce' mother.

A relative spent 30+ years tracing dad's side and published two volumes. It reads like a history book, all my kids and grandkids have use it for school reports.

I'm probably related to Boudicca  :lmao:

Are you sure you wanna be? :o :lmao:

One of my paternal grandmother's great grandfathers basically founded present day Jefferson, NC, guy's last name was Burkett.  I am supposed to be writing a book on all the research I've done over the past dozen years but I hate compiling it.  Hubby keeps telling me I'd better get it down before I'm dead, but I have an entire bookshelf of research folders and have managed to do up the line and block charts so enterprising youngster perhaps yet to be born can do that project.

First cousin marriages happened all the time, and still do in many parts of the world.  Hubby used to make fun of me, being a Southern girl from Dad's side of the family, but hey, when I dug into his Mom's New England roots I found quite a few first cousin marriages. :lmao: :lmao:He got all butt hurt (not really), but he DID quit talking shit about inbred Southerners. :-)

Fathers side, pure 100% English and any other nationality of men that could out run the woman.

Mothers side French Canadian and any other nationality of men that could out run the woman.   We have a wood pile 60 feet high in our family tree that may contain all races on earth.----Both sides were sea fairing men and spread their seed where ever the wind blew their sails

We did find a family of Hawaiians of some sort that were related to my Father as they jumped ship in the early 1800 in the islands and some how the SIR name stayed intact.  This find  was pure accident but the family had records that showed they originally came from Dads  neck of the woods and were actually related.

Hubby's family tree is interesting...one side related to Benedict Arnold and the other to Jesse James/Cole Younger gang.  My in-laws are outlaws. :lmao:

Remember that first cousin marriages in the olden days usually happened due to a shortage of people in any given isolated village.  The place would get settled by half a dozen families, or whatever, and within a few generations everyone was related to everyone else.
It WOULD be awfully weird for one's aunt and uncle to also be one's in-laws though. :o

That just reminded me of something.  I knew a man whose wife died. A couple of years later he married her sister. Ewwww. The son's aunt was also his step-mom.

Actually, among certain royal families, there were some siblings that married and had children.

No, but there could have been some of that fighting over the women folk from the men folk.  The good news is that my Grandmother and Mammaw are NOT related in any way.  At least back to 1500 or so.  So I think I am good.  :-)

Polish-Irish-German ancestry.  So while I'll be slow on the uptake I'll still stomp your asses and drink you under the table.

There was a time that you couldn't have done either. But, that was many years ago and nowdays I don't drink or fight. If I can get out of somebody's way, I'll just bust a cap in their ass given no other alternative.
