My ex-girlfriend, a queer, politically active woman of color who listed her political views on facebook as "anti-oppression warrior", was emotionally abusive to me.

I was having mental health issues at the time, and she would constantly berate me for it. She would tell me things like "You have no right to be depressed; you're a privileged white girl." She would often be angry with me and not tell me why; I walked on eggshells with her. When we broke up, she yelled at me for ten straight minutes about how I was a horrible person with no redeeming qualities. Months after we broke up, she wrote several blog posts about me, calling me the girlfriend from hell and telling everyone what a psycho I was.

She completely and utterly destroyed my self-esteem. She cut me off from a lot of my friends and the "community". When I tried to tell my friends what had happened to me, they'd say things like:

"Clearly, you hurt her and she hurt you. Hopefully you'll be able to work through it some day."

"I don't believe you. She would never say anything like that."

"I can't talk to you about this; I don't want to get involved in drama."

"You brought this on yourself."

They believed that someone with awesome radical politics could never cause harm to someone else. However, the harm my ex-girlfriend caused me was very real, and only amplified by the indifference I got from my community.

All the threads about Assange hit very close to home for me. I appreciate the work of WikiLeaks, and, quite frankly, I can't say one way or another whether the allegations are true. However, I know what it's like to not be believed when someone has harmed you because that person is respected as an activist. Things like sexual assault, partner abuse, and all kinds of violence not only happen to our communities, but within them. And sometimes the reality of it isn't politically convenient

You know, a vocabularial analysis shows that use of the word "frank" or "frankly" on Skins's island has increased substantially the past few months.  It used to be a rare word there; now it's getting more and more common.

One wonders what's up with that.

I wouldn't want to listen to incessant whining from a hot straight girl. I doubt seriously that I could tolerate it for more than a minute or two from a butt-ugly dyke.

It sounds like this poor damaged girl is the 'victim' half of an abusive relationship, looking for a place to happen.  It's become her identity to the exclusion of self-sufficiency or independence.

I'm pretty sure that every American has been harmed by the activist community. Minorities, women, and children hurt the most.
