A great Thanksgiving! I hope each and every one of you had one as well. Officially, 51 people showed up
and a good time was had by all. What a day to catch up on the four F's, food, friendships, families, and football. As I reported earlier I was not looking forward to having the tensions of politics rear it's ugly head during this time of enjoyment. I would love to say that my liberal sister in laws converted to conservatism and have renounced their ways, but you actually for subtle changes, nuances of reflection. Both sister in laws and hubbies showed up bright and cheerful, but very guarded, almost to the point of being uncomfortable. For the first time ever, both sister in laws and their hubbies came to the garage
to sit and talk.
You know the talk. Catching up on how kids are doing, people's health, latest bass boat purchase. When the talk turned to politics, the sister in laws simply stated that they were glad that the election was over
and that we can start looking at rebuilding the economy. A cheap shot from a young nephew about the Democrats getting waxed ( I cleaned up the actual language) was met with a stern look and a few choice
words from his father. What was shocking was the sister in laws agreeing with the nephew and stating
that since Obama was elected, their respective worlds were turned upside down with job losses and a significant drop in income. They didn't blame Bush and were deeply hurt that everything they worked
for their whole lives was slipping away. They and their husbands now appreciate what families mean to them and for all the help that family members had given them over the past year. One sister in law who
I really could have care less for actually told family members that she loved my wife and me because,
and I'll use her words, "You know who your true friends are when they're coming in the back door when
all your "friends" are going out the front door." She said that her family was truly thankful for what we had done, and that she plans to be a little more thoughtful and involved than she was in the past.
It was one of the best Thanksgivings ever for me and my family.
