Bow Tie or Necktie?
« on: October 28, 2010, 09:06:58 AM »
I've been told my bow ties make me look liberal, like a college professor, by some conservative friends. Liberals have said they look too conservative. I've been wearing 'em since high school. Women seem to either HATE them, I mean REALLY hate them, OR they just go nuts over them. No grey area.

The only time I wear a bow tie is when I'm wearing a tux - which is what I wear for evening gigs.

Other than that, it's a necktie for church. Definitely don't wear a necktie at work - it's mostly jeans and a golf shirt.

Neck tie.  I can't tie a bow.

Started wearing bow ties, by my own choice, as soon as I started high school. It was Catholic high school and the guys had to wear dress pants, dress shirts, dress shoes, and ties. When my mother took me shopping for my freshman year wardrobe, I picked out a bunch of bow ties, the tie-it-yourself kind. Worn nothing else since.

Necktie, however it probably only wear one every 10 years. I prefer 501's, T's and flannel shirts.

Well if you are the pic in your avatar, I think you look pretty darn handsome. The bow tie fits you well.

I went to a Catholic high school as well. Had to wear ties, wear dress pants, dress shirts, and dress shoes. (Once in a while, we would have fundraisers or days that we could wear jeans or whatever.) Plus, your hair couldn't be longer than the collar on your shirt. I stayed out of trouble so I was able to get away with longer hair.  :cheersmate:

I've never worn a bow tie except, perhaps, when I was very young.  I think they look good but the world is a neck tie world and I guess it has never been a big deal to me.

I did wear a bolo a couple of times.

I had a job where I had to wear an ascot.  I would have taken a bow tie in a heartbeat over that stupid thing.

I vote necktie.  Since DH retired from the Army, he has supported me in a more than generous fashion.  His job entails wearing a nice shirt, nice pants and a necktie.  When he meets the higher ups, it entails the whole suit deal.
Bowties are for dress blues and other fancy schmancy occasions.
But you wear what you like.  It's all good. :cheersmate:

OK, I've got to ask . . . what job requires an ascot?  Were you sitting in for Alistar Cooke on Masterpiece Theater perhaps?  :-)

For the record, those guys whose photos are posted, George Will and Paul Simon, and I'll throw in Tucker Carlson even though he's not posted there, their bow ties look like ASS. PeeWee Herman's bow ties probably looks better than their's!

Neck tie...... I wore a Continental Bow tie when I was in concert band. I have a pic of when I was 2 when I wore a bow tie. I've been wearing neck ties since I was 12. I tie a true 4 in hand knot, too.

As far back as my freshman year in high school, I had the bow tie tying down to an art form. I've seen some assclowns wearing 'em where they look like ASS. They need to learn to tie 'em, to get properly sized shirts, and to get their shirts properly pressed and starched. Makes a huge difference.
