lol  For a loooong time I never left the lounge. Only a couple of years ago did I venture into GD. So those were about the only forums I ever posted in. I must have missed him.

And a large percentage of the mothers of soldiers tried to talk their kid out of enlisting. Told them they were stupid for fighting for this country.

They encouraged soldiers that were home on leave to go AWOL or go to Canada. 

They hate anything associated with the military. It was twice as bad when President Bush was in office.

Anti military threads were a daily thing.

If you're a donating member, go look up some threads by Proud2Blib. She  over the thought of Code Pink harassment of military personnel.

I started posting in GD about 2 years ago. It was much different than the lounge to say the least. I didn't realize (being young and naive) that there were such loud crazy people out there, BUT I have seen a couple (not you of course) here that are the replica of those, just with different views. And by a couple, I really mean about 2-ish. I will say most people here have been very cordial even in disagreement.

So my take is that there are just crazies everywhere. With all beliefs. I am a person whose friends are mainly republican. We don't discuss politics much, but even when we do, we can find common ground, or at least see where the other person is coming from. I have found that mostly to be true here as well. However, there are those few...

Afghanistan is having it's bloodiest years yet (largely because of the ROE that says they can't shoot when civilians are around...wonder of wonders the Taliban & Al Qaeda figured that out and have their women and children running ammo and reloading) and it's barely mentioned over there. Wars are okay when fought by Democrats I guess.

Then you missed a LOT over there.  Including their troop hating underpinnings.

Word of advice...don't mention over there you have a brother deploying.

Don't think it would happen?  We sat here one day and watched a DU military vet with 1000+ posts get banned in the span of about two hours because he got back from Iraq and did one of those "ask me anything" threads and his answers didn't mesh with their hatred of all things militaryand he was tombstoned.

Then there's mike_c who thinks any soldier who's served or serving in Iraq or Afghanistan...to include your brother...should be tried for war crimes.

Then there's LynnTheDem...a bitter military officers wife who was so ghastly inwhat she (and her husband) where saying on DU that the military actually investigated them.

Half of the people that claim to be combat vets there...aren't...and the other half that say they served are bitter draftees that didn't see combat.

But what should really concern you about the peace and love crowd is how many of them over there cheerlead the ones I mentioned.  The ones that if I buy the farm in Afghanistan next month...would piss on my grave the first chance they got.


It's not some people at DU that hate the troops....it's most people at DU.  And by association I'll throw the Admins in there because they quietly sit back and let that kind of hatred spread and get published without so much as a warning or a thread lock.
