Opposed to Obamacare? Then You Must Be a Racist
« on: March 30, 2010, 07:31:23 AM »
Frank Rich, of the New York Times, called all of the opponents of Obamacare "racist" in a column last week.  Pat Sajak--yes, that Pat Sajak--writes a response which is on the Human Events website today.  I saw this on RedState and had to post it here . . .

Opposed to Obamacare? Then You Must Be a Racist

Frank Rich spent many years as the theater critic for the New York Times, where, at worst, his venom could cause a Broadway production or two to close down.

Now, however, Mr. Rich opines on political and social issues for the Times,  and, while the results are usually mildly amusing (even if unintentionally so), his reach has grown a bit, so the damage he causes can travel beyond the footlights. I’m not sure why anyone turns to Rich for political analysis—heck, you might as well read the rantings of a TV game show host—but the Gray Lady continues to pay him for his weekly column, and, at the rate she’s bleeding money, that’s no small sacrifice.

Anyway, Mr. Rich has apparently been able to get to the bottom of the vocal opposition to the “healthcare reform” bill that was recently gently shepherded through Congress.

It turns out, according to his well-crafted analysis, that it’s not the bill that’s got people in an uproar; rather, what we’re facing is the death rattle of a dwindling cadre of white, racist, sexist, homophobic males terrified by the ascent of people of color, women and gays.

As the ever-tolerant Rich reasons: “The conjunction of a black President and a female speaker of the House — topped off by a wise Latina on the Supreme Court and a powerful gay congressional committee chairman — would sow fears of disenfranchisement among a dwindling and threatened minority in the country no matter what policies were in play.”

The rest is a pretty good read.

While not everyone that opposes the healthcare is a racist..I am sure some are. For example, I have relatives that oppose it and use the "N" word from time to time. So I know for a fact that some that oppose it are racists. They refer to Obama as "that black man" with condemnation and hate. I dont care for much of his politics either but I do feel there is some truth to the argument that a true power struggle is going on similar to the 60's--but now instead black vs. white its more like liberal vs. conservative. So now you have gays and other minorities being dragged into the battle like hispanics or illegal/legal aliens. So conservatives feel like something is being taken from them...and the liberals feel like they are getting what they deserve.....

I know several people who are democrats (a few are union members) who are racists and like the healthcare "reform".  One such person is a person I went to high school with.  She uses the "N" word frequently, her ex-step daughter dates black men so she calls her a "white trash whore" because of it.  She is a democrat, thinks the heathcare "reform" is a good thing and her dad is a Union guy.  I'm sure she got her views from her parents (who happen to be democrats).  What is your point?

Damn right something is being taken from us and you, and every American. Our liberty is being stripped. Some people will trade liberty for a sense of security. The only freedoms the left gives a damn about is the freedom to screw whoever they want and get abortion on demand. Everything else needs to be dictated by the feds.

The libs say "Keep your laws off my body" for abortion rights well I am amending that slogan, "Keep your laws off the fruit of my labor". I am not even close to rich but what Obama is doing will hit us lower income people the hardest. With the added bonus of no new jobs for most of us to better ourselves with.

Obama doesn't either realize that corporations need profits to create jobs or he is doing what lots of conservatives are claiming, trying to kill the economy to build it back the way he wants. Either way this is scary as hell. And for the chuckleheads on the left calling us racists is insane and just intellectually lazy. They never debate the facts we quote, they just throw the race card at us. I am so sick of the  left using these tactics we spend more time deflecting the name calling, then getting our message out. When Obama has destroyed our country then maybe some libs will wake up but, it will be too damn late.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

My point is in response to Pat Sajaks article contending that if you oppose obamacare you are sometimes labeled a racist when in fact many people object to health reform based on its merits alone and it has nothing to do with race.

I'm saying that sometimes people object to it (healthcare, or any other issue) BECAUSE of race--not all people, but some. And that healthcare aside, many people are offended, like pat sajak said in his article, that a black man is president and a woman is speaker of the house. So even though many people that oppose healthcare arent racists, some are. And that sometimes it may have nothing to do with healthcare at all. If Obama was trying to switch movie night to Thursday from Friday, many would oppose it not because they have a conflict with movie night being on Thursday, but because a black man is telling them what to do...
If those same people were told by the late reagan to move movie  night to Thursday, they would ask whether or not they should bring popcorn...

So my conclusion is simply that race does play a factor for some people...regardless of the issue...

Move movie night?  How The **** does what night Americans watch movies have anything to do with "Buy this product or pay a penalty"?  Federally funded abortion?  Hell, for all I know, Catholic hospitals can no longer decline to perform abortions.  This isn't saying "we're making minor changes to the way we do things"; 0bamacare is about telling you what you will do, and penalizing you if you don't.

And the people who seem to have the biggest problem with labeling things racist are the ones who pay stand to gain from it.  Like the Congressional Black Caucus, NAACP, SPLC, Black Panther Party, etc.

Maverick once again coming up with the meme that only white people can be racists.

What a tool.

Something tells me you've been watching too much Olbermann, dude.  Back away from the KoolAid.  The number of "racists" you see is somewhere on par with Charles Johnson.  Racists do exist, to be sure, but by far the vast majority of those opposed to the healthcare debacle are doing so not because of racial motivation--that, if it even exists, is far, far down the list.

The Tea Party exists not because America elected a black man--if racism was so prevalent, how the hell did he get elected in the first place?
