Lawmakers working to craft a new comprehensive immigration bill have settled on a way to prevent employers from hiring illegal immigrants: a national biometric identification card all American workers would eventually be required to obtain.

Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker.

Also I am really not surprised at the idiot Republican that is helping out the democrat on this one.  Can we say national ID card everyone?  Just friggin amazing.

I'm waiting for Lindsey Graham to announce that he is switching parties at any time.  This and globull warming is what he's been talking about lately.  What happened to that law requiring employers to verify that workers were citizens?  About 2 years ago, we  were required to prove we were citizens at work.

That law still exists.  But I hear that the forgeries are quite realistic these days.

It's not about immigration at all.  It's about more government control over every aspect of our lives.

I suspect I will live to see the day where national ID cards are mandated for all US citizens.

If that happens, then showing them had better become a requirement for voting. In fact, that needs to be an amendment added to the bill. If that doesn't kill it then nothing would.

We don't need new laws to be broken we need enforcement of the laws already on the books (and a border wall).

The reason ostensibly was to add the question would've delayed the census for a few months and that gerrymandering and reapportionment is based on "number of people" instead of the number of citizens.

Not really, I have had to deal with people in my professional life who thought even having a social security number was somehow submitting to the Antichrist, long before the Left Behind books, though good connection on your part.  Let's just say I didn't regard those guys as the fellas "October Sky" was written about.

I'm always kind of ambivalent about that since the wife and I both have some Native American in our background.  I think 1/16 plus a bit from farther back for me, though given the times when the bloodlines crossed, it was not the thing to talk about or hold onto, so the tribal affiliation is a long-lost thread.  When I feel cranky I check the block for it, though.

I'll do this year what I did the last time.  Fill out how many people live at my residence.
