Dude, you have obviously never been anywhere near a real banana republic.  Nobody sane who'd really been to back-country Central America could say something that stupid.

Dear DUmbshit,

I'll pose to you one question I heard whilst channel surfing tonight.  China currently holds most of our foreign debt.  How can they possibly do this?  Simple, when your economy is growing at 10-12 percent per year.  But why is their economy growing by leaps and bounds?  Very simple, and can be expressed in three little words:

FREE.  MARKET.  CAPITALISM.

Oh, make no mistake--from a personal standpoint, China is as repressive as ever.  Economically, however, they realized that the Soviet-style economic plan was complete and total bullshit, as was anything anywhere near it; i.e., socialism.  This is why they are now the second-largest economy in the world, and if current trends continue, will likely be the largest in 20-25 years, if not sooner.  Even the commies know you can't tax capital gains at the rates our government does and still hope to prosper.

Comrad Sparky:

Since you answered your question, let me pose another to you:

How is it every year since 2003 the Germans, and not the Chinese, have either led the world in export sales or been tied for first place?

Any thoughts on how bullshit socialists have managed to create a high-wage unionized economy without shipping all their jobs to Asia or creating a monster trade deficit, or any trade deficit at all?

And the Germans manage to do all this while taking six weeks of vacation every year.........

To the U.S> or to Europe?

And that "high wage unionized economy" is about to bring about the collapse of the Euro and the EU economic sphere of influence.

The European single currency is facing an 'inevitable break-up' a leading French bank claimed yesterday.
Strategists at Paris-based Société Générale said that any bailout of the stricken Greek economy would only provide 'sticking plasters' to cover the deep- seated flaws in the eurozone bloc.
The stark warning came as the euro slipped further on the currency markets and dire growth figures raised the prospect of a 'double-dip' recession in the embattled zone.

The UNDP 2004 report shows that 8.3 % of Germany's population lives below income poverty line (50% of median household income). Gross primary enrollment, which denotes the percent of school-age population, is 103, with 104 for male and 103 for female population. Adult Literacy rate is the same as other high-income countries, 99 %. Germany is ranked 19th in 177 countries of the world in terms of human development index. Germany's labour force growth rate of 0.1% in last six years is far short of the other high-income countries' growth rate of rate of 0.7% during these years.

The GNI per capita of Germany Economy was $ 25250 in 2003. In terms of purchasing power parity, Per capita GNI in 2003 was US $ 27460, placing it at a lower rank among the other OECD countries.

It turns out that China is not leading the world out of recession, is not nipping at America's economic heels, is not America's banker, is not becoming more consumption-driven, and is not controlling its carbon emissions. Instead, Chinese growth for the moment comes at the expense of global growth, the U.S. has stronger long-term economic fundamentals than China, Chinese bond purchases appear unimportant, China is more investment-dependent than ever, and is by far the world's largest greenhouse emitter.

The American position is thus considerably stronger relative to China than commonly believed. However, it is also the case that the policy challenges, such as inducing genuine economic reform in the PRC, are more daunting. It will be more difficult for the U.S. to avoid the pitfalls of superficial changes, such as in exchange rates and carbon intensities, to make progress toward a Chinese economy that genuinely does boost world growth.

I forget where I heard it (probably an economic pundit on Fox -- CNBC doesn't discuss the 800-pound gorilla in the room), but China appears to regularly inflate their production and economic numbers.  Not that I have any other source, but I'm just offering that as a suggestion.  Enron and many other companies have done the same, and look at the result.

Exactly.   The US may be in an economic downturn, but our country is the most solid and solvent to invest in.  We will still be standing 100 years from now (now that we have the 41st vote and put the brakes on the march to socialism).   Do we have a lot of cuts to make?  absolutely.  However the sky isn't falling yet.

I would trust the Chinese to give us the straight truth as much as I would David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel.

I would trust the Chinese first.  The Chinese have a vested interest in the success of the USA.  The Axelrod/Emanuel crowd have an intense interest in the destruction of the American way of life.

Let's face it.  Our enemies no longer live across the oceans.

Thanks for the links.

In answer to your first question, I'm a**uming my source meant Germany's total global export sales. I relied on Thomas Geoghegan's "Notebook" in the March 2010 Harper's Magazine print edition.

If you would like a different perspective on the "stricken Greek economy" I would recommend CounterPunch.org's The Economic Velociraptors by Alexander Cockburn (Feb 12-14)

If you consider Joseph Stiglitz a credible economic source, there's no particular reason why Greece should have become a crisis right now, except it was their turn. Stiglitz argues that what what we're reading in the corporate media is a speculative attack by the big money players at the Credit Default Swaps table in Wall Street's casino.

1. Alas, this quote is bogus...
Lincoln never said any such thing.

http://www.snopes.com/quotes/lincoln.htm

Don't be embarrassed, though, it came up recently on a refrence librarian's list, and a lot of people thought it was real until they looked into it. Lincoln is one of the most widely misquoted figures in history.

Eisenhower, on the other hand, did warn us quite vividly about the military-industrial complex but no one wants to bring him up.

A "good Republican" and the guy who kicked Hitler's ass and settled the Korea mess warns us about militarism-- no wonder the neocons and warmongers want us to forget he was President.

Even the Little Goons who admit they are Little Goons know Lincoln never said this.  Why don't you?
