Well, the job at the air port didn't pan out. The ol' piss cup has stalled another DUmmy career. But at least DUmmy TwixVoy is looking:

There may be 1 less person on the unemployment rolls on Wednesday
So I have a job interview for a part time cashier job at a small grocery store location on Wednesday. It pays near minimum wage and from the internet research I've done the health insurance offered is atrocious. I got the phone call for the interview a day after putting in the application which is always a warning sign.
In any case it is a job and I will be glad to be doing something until I can find a full time job. This will be the first part time job I have worked in years. I asked a cashier how many hours they averaged when I went to apply and he told me "we're lucky we get about 20 to 25 hours".
Well I will be contributing to the reduction in the unemployment numbers. Laid off from a full time telecom technician position and now trading down to a part time cashier. I have also lost the "real" health insurance I had.
Still no calls from the close to 50 full time positions I have put in for in the past month.
The media and government shall report this as good news.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x7441409This could be good news for DUmmy Twix. If it's one of those Korean-run convenience stores, maybe they don't have a drug test! DUmmy Twix needs a break. Fired from clerking at Target for insubordination, fired from a trainee cable guy job, probably due to the random drug testing, he needs a new career so he can resume his financial advice columns at the DUmp.

4. Part time dead end jobs give you more time to interview
than full time dead end jobs do, so that's actually an advantage.
Part time, dead end jobs can also help you pay the rent and stay fed until the economy picks up and companies start to hire again. That can help you stretch your savings and even preserve some of them.
A part time, dead end job will look better on your work history than just giving up would.
If you don't get this one, you will get one. It will be good news when you do.
DUmmy Warpy knows all about dead end part-time jobs. Since being drummed out of the nursing profession for sampling the drug cabinet, it's all she's done.
DUmmy NightWatcher, who is currently making a living defrauding the unemployment compensation system:

6. is this part time job going to pay more than unemployment?
that is, if you are on UI.
It sounds horrible, but you (not you personally, but the royal 'you') have to do what is best for you and your family, even if that means "gaming" the system. I am not gaming the system, but using UI to cover a few bills while I volunteer in a new field trying to build a decent resume.
I was laid off from my stop-gap temporary job after only a few months. You wanna talk about a shitty feeling, try getting let go from a minimum wage job for which you are WAY OVERQUALIFIED for.
Unemployment compensation does not apply to people fired for failing a random drug screening.

7. It will probably be less than the UI
But what I have found is that being unemployed is hurting my full time jobs chances. So I would rather take less money short term if it means better chances of longer term job prospects.
Nope, no unemployment checks for DUmmy Twix.
