I'll second that!  And I still get choked up watching A Charlie Brown Christmas when Linus recites the Christmas story -- "that's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."

Watched that last night with my two year old, I tear up too!

Christmas Shoes song sucks the big one...I mean come on--where else but in Appalachia are you going to find a kid like he describes in that song. It makes no sense for the current times. Had it been written 80 years ago: it would have made sense. Plus, what kid is in a shoe store when his mother is on her death bed? :thatsright:

Hate the John and Yoko song and that song they foist off as a christmas song about the two old loves coming together for a couple of drinks and discussing their lives to that point and then parting ways as the 'snow turns into rain' :whatever:

The Hippopotamus song annoys me.

I can live with Santa Baby, but not Madonna's version--it's way over the top campy and cheap sounding compared to the original.

Best...I like just about any but I love Josh Groban's voice on the Christmas songs and I really love this Silent Night version by Mercy Me:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30o_QZnVBjA

There are so many others. I love the ones that were sung by Bing, Nat King Cole, etc. Those are the ones we listened to most when I was a kid along with some Mormon Tabernacle and some more classical version of the carols.

Gotta agree with the DUmmies on that "Rump-a-Pump" song. It blows.
I think it's kinda catchy, like those dumb freecreditreport.com commercials' songs.

My personal least favorites are:

Grandma got run over by a reindeer

Blue Christmas

Santa Baby

and a few other more secular Christmas songs.

BTW, I'm not in a very "Christmassy mood" this year.....

It may be "kinda catchy," but it's in a flu-like way.

All I know is that since this post started, I've been hearing snatches of Little Drummer Boy in my head, same as I do whenever one of those freecreditreport.com commercials pop up.

Bing Crosby singing "I'll Be Home For Christmas" always brings a tear to my eye whenever I hear it. Makes me think of those who due to military obligations cannot be home with their families.

If I recall, that's exactly who it was written for - For members of our military serving overseas on Christmas during one of the World Wars.

Bing Crosby singing "I'll Be Home For Christmas" always brings a tear to my eye whenever I hear it. Makes me think of those who due to military obligations cannot be home with their families.

This one has always made me tear up.....it always made me think of my mother. Then when my son was in the Navy...it was doubly hard.

Christmas Shoes was either written for the movie The Christmas Shoes...or the movie was done from the song. The movie was a chick flick tear-jerker.

I have always liked The Little Drummer Boy....but it gets very tiresome by the end of the season. I've always thought my son "walked to a different drummer" than everyone else. Often pics of the Little Drummer Boy is of a little towhead....and makes me think of my son.

I like the tradional songs....O Holy Night and What Child is This? always give me shivers and make me tear up. As does O' Come 'O Come Emmanuel.

Santa Baby is a commercial....

The Little Drummer Boy holds special childhood memories for me, as a tiny girl listening to it while being with my dad in his workshop.  So I cannot share the DUmmies' loathing.  I have the good fortune to having never heard the Shoes song.  I concur with Last Christmas.  My husband heard it the other day and it pissed him off.  How about ones you especially love?
Last year, there was medley that was popular, by the guy from Bare Naked Ladies and some chick.  It started off with God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, I think.  I loved that song.  Beautiful.
I actually like most Christmas music since growing up in a Christian household afforded us exposure to a variety of Christmas music. One of my personal favorites however is "I Believe In Father Christmas" sung by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. The arrangement and Greg Lake's hallowing voice is inspirational. Of course songs of joy, hope, heterosexual family, and God's love of us all so great he GIFTED all of us with son to save our souls, is 110% abhorrent to DUmmys.

Obviously (c)Rap music idolizing murder, street drug use, welfare from "Da Man", and beating women-whores and ******s is THEIR prefered means of musical expression.

Be proud "Tools of Satan" DUmmys!

I love most of the religious carols - "Joy to the World" being a particular favorite. I guess I'm a bit too traditional, as lot of the secular music leaves me sad, kind of like a comparison between regular coffee (the religious carols) and What's-the-point? (decaf, i.e. some of the secular music).

Christmas Shoes was either written for the movie The Christmas Shoes...or the movie was done from the song. The movie was a chick flick tear-jerker.

BAsed on one of those passed along internet stories back in the 90's, a group or two found it and made a song, a writer took the ball and made a novella, and then a movie. Still a really bad song and maudlin imo.

Chick flick? So it was a comedy?  :-)

I'm sorry, I know that's mean, I just think movies made for women are so transparent that they end up as maudlin as that song. It's almost insulting they think a woman's emotions can be manipulated so easily.

I'm like you deb with the actual carols. Those are usually very emotional for me--the ones that actually deal with the true reason for the Christmas.
