It is not uncommon for a parent to not know that their child is sexually active.

This is, of course, true. But do you really think she should have commented on it?

I don't see why anyone would take issue with her for discussing it, especially in light of the way the moonbats on the left attacked her over her teenage daughter getting pregnant.

So?  What can she do that won't open her to moonbat attacks?

My crazy moonbat friend made a comment on her facebook about how Palin should have stayed home and been a real mother to her sluty daughter. Liberals show their true colors when they think they are speaking among friends.

If your friend has kids, there will probably be a karmic price to pay for that vitriolic little snark.  Those chickens have a way of coming home to roost.

Palin was most likely responding to a question from the reporter about whether she knew her daughter was sexually active. Answering in the manner she did was the only choice, imo.

She could have declared the subject off Bristol off limits at the beginning of the interview.

Like that has ever worked for a conservative politician?  The only time the press will drop a subject is if it embarrasses a liberal.

And that is dead-on accurate.

She could never have answered this in a way that would make (some of you) people happy.

My response to this? BFD.

karma will probably smack her in the face as she "had" to get married, if you know what I mean. I had a response all typed out that was all smartassy but decided it wasn't worth it.

And what they can't attack they will simply fabicate:

So, let them fabricate. Why make it easy for them?

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

In context of the OP "not making it easy for them" would have entailed evading the question (albeit the issue is raised in her book) but the issue is out there and the liberals made great hay of it as if Christians (should) have perfect families. I don't really see this as being too big an issue and I'm not just saying that as a Palinista. I was/am very disappointed at her resignation as governor and I was very vocal about it at the time. I think that is her single biggest political mistake.

I think at the end of the day the libs will scream, "Super-Mom didn't know what her daughter was doing!" to wit middle America will answer, "Yeah, you'll have that. Kids seldom tell their parents they're engaged in behaviors their parents have strenuously cautioned against."
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

You know, when I was a kid, there were thousands of things I did that I didn't tell my parents.  As my brothers and I got older (and forgot what my parents didn't know) we'd end up laughing about incidents in front of Mom or Dad when suddenly one of them would get very quiet and we'd get "The Stare."   OOPS!  Then would come a few very tense questions and we'd find ourselves 'fessing up.   :( :(

Now that my oldest is over 30, I have heard a whole lot from him and the next 2 that I really didn't want to know.  Now I know exactly why my Mom used to say that we each had a whole flock of guardian angels keeping us alive!!

My point is, anyone who really thinks they know everything about their kid is someday going to find out way different.  That Bristol didn't tell her Mom what she was doing until she HAD to is absolutely normal and typical for teens her age.  Big  :censored: deal.   :thatsright:  ::)

If God came down from the Heavens during Palin's next big interview, stood next to her, and informed those present that she was perfect for public office, our MSM would be able to use THAT against her, too.  Conservative Christians are not to be permitted to have any effect on the country.   :whatever:

I will never. EVER. pass judgment on the way a parent raises his or her kids until both my daughters are grandmothers. I have no room to judge until I'm done my parenting--which, by the way, is never.
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

Hi,

I have two responses to your question.  First of all, I need to see the context of the interview.  Did she bring it up or was in an honest answer to a question?  Second of all, I can tell you this, her response is one that most any parent who has raised daughters can easily relate with.  Oh as parents you may wonder, and even suspect but you never really know for sure probably until well after the fact.

To me basically it is just one more example where she reinforces she is like millions of Americans, we can relate to her as a real mom and a real person, unlike people like Pelosi, Hillary and BO....

Dear Mrs. Smith,

Loved your response and got quite a chuckle about it.  Normally that stuff comes out at family gatherings when the kids are over 30 and then you can all laugh about it because there is not much else you can do.  It is pretty unrealistic, probably in any generation, to expect a teen ager (hopefully at least that old) to walk in to mom and dad and say, "Hey mom and dad, I just got laid!"

I raised two boys and two girls and it was tough enough trying to help them skate through those years without permanent damage to their lives and indeed there had to have been many guardian angels.......just like those who looked after us when we were kids....and I will be 70 in a few months.

Glad those years are behind us......and my two oldest grandchildren are in the 20's and the grand daughter through college and married and both are teaching in a church school.  One less to have to worry about.......only four more grandchildren to go through those difficult years.

regards,

Evading the question would have made things relatively worse. Besides, being an adult requires you to have a thick skin.
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”
