Actually, "ain't" ain't a ghetto word. It originated in Southern England.

As far as spelling, there is little excuse for improper spelling, IMO. I have Distal Motor Paresis due to my various and assorted spinal cord injuries. I still manage to MOSTLY spell properly. Of course, Firefox has a built in spell check program, of which I often take advantage.

Well, really now that you mention it, most of them have been crappy spellers, which helps to set them apart right off the bat.

I use it when speaking, somewhat, but I don't think I've used the word "ain't" on a message board, email or anything written.

I have absolutely no problem with using the word "ain't" in casual conversation and on message boards, considering the casual nature of both methods of communication.

No way would I use the word in formal reports or formal speech.

Since we're talking about questionable words, the word "irregardless" makes my blood run cold. I hear that word fairly often and I cringe when I do.

I only use the word ain't when I'm trying to be funny....like "you ain't got nothing on me hunny..." 2 snaps and a head bunt.

I just don't get "could/should/would of." That's the one that makes me weep for this language.

I think it came from a bastardization of the contractive forms of the words: would've , should've, could've . They sound like would of, etc when spoken.
