This bonfire just got lit, by the operating one.

I'll post primitive comments as they occur.

One can predict the primitives are deeply saddened.

11. Or the pizza shop owner.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beltway_sniper_attacks

On September 5, 2002, at 10:30 pm, Paul LaRuffa, a 55-year-old pizzeria owner, was shot six times at close range while locking up his Italian restaurant in Clinton, Maryland. LaRuffa survived the shooting and his laptop computer was found in John Muhammad's car when he and Malvo were arrested.<2>

On September 21, 2002, an unidentified liquor store clerk in Montgomery, Alabama, was shot and killed during a robbery. Her co-worker, Kellie Adams, was injured, but survived. Evidence found at the crime scene eventually tied this killing to the Beltway attacks and allowed authorities to identify Muhammad and Malvo as suspects,<3> although this connection was not made until October 17.

13. I worked in and commuted daily to the Maryland suburbs he terrorized in 2002.

And I was genuinely afraid some days. I am a very rational person and knew that the chances of me or my wife (girlfriend at the time) getting hit were slim, but the shear randomness of the attacks and the audacity of them made filling up the gas tank a particularly scary task. And then they shot that 13 year-old kid, who thankfully survived.

With all that said, I do not support his government-administered death. ******* Virginia.

God bless Virginia.

if we fail to keep mass murderers incarcerated for life, while also seizing the opportunity to study these serial killers in a way to better understand how to prevent their creation...

While his guilt is not at question, thereby preempting my major argument against the death penalty, I think my Mom's argument has merit... McVeigh's death certainly didn't prevent others from plotting similar violence, yet left many unanswered questions for victims and the general public as well.

24. FYI, "state-sponsored murder" is technically an oxymoron.

I understand that opponents of the DP are drawing a moral equivalency and not a legal one. Still the traditional, common law definition of murder is, "The UNLAWFUL killing of a human being with malice aforethought."

33. The US shouldn't belong to this club.

In 2008 China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and the United States of America were the five states with the highest rate of executions. Together they carried out (93%) of all executions worldwide.

Of course, we must also be proud of "bringing democracy" to Iraq:

The use of the death penalty has increased rapidly in Iraq since it was reinstated in mid-2004. Since then more than 270 people have been sentenced to death and at least 100 people have reportedly been executed. There were no executions reported in 2004 and at least three men were executed in 2005, but since then there has been a rapid rise in executions with at least 65 people, including at least two women, reportedly executed by hanging in 2006.(1) Iraq now figures among the countries with the highest numbers of executions reported in 2006. Higher totals were recorded only in China, Iran and Pakistan.(2) Amnesty International

But we keep on chugging, being the world's "moral leader":

International Abolition: in 1977, just 16 countries had abolished the death penalty for all crimes. By 1988, 35 countries had done so and another 18 had abolished the death penalty for all but exceptional crimes like treason, and 27 more were considered abolitionist in practice because they had not carried out an execution in over 10 years. As of June 2009, 139 countries were abolitionist in law or practice. Amnesty

Even the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia stated that the death penalty is not an option, even for the most heinous crimes known to civilization, including genocide.

Time for us to step up and quit pretending that killing people to show that killing people is wrong is even remotely humane or justifiable.

38. "Malice" here is a term of art.

Intent to kill, intent to cause serious bodily injury, wanton recklessness, fatality during another felony. Obviously, there is intent to kill in an execution. Nevertheless, one needs all of the elements for it to be murder.

Not sure I know what you mean by "legal." If a state writes the DP into its homicide statute and the execution complies with that, how is it not legal?

What's there to study? He is evil. It must be tough to be a libtard and have to tapdance all over the floor in order to avoid the plain truth right there in the open, big as life--that evil exists, and some people are evil. It must be difficult to be a moral relatavist and never be able to apply the simple truth.

and he is another Gulf War veteran like Timothy McVeigh who had a "grudge" how many will come back from Iraq and Afghanistan with the same symptoms???

Uh, no, dipshit, try again.  Malvo converted to ISLAM (and why does that little fact keep popping up time and time and time again when it comes to murderous rampages, pray tell?) and joined the Nation of Islam back in the 1980's.  While he may have been in the Army and even in DS, it doesn't say WHAT he did there.  Was he infantry, or a rear-eschelon pogue?

Further, as IBD reported back in 2007, CNN even look at this and determined that his intent was to wage JIHAD (CNN's words, not mine).

So, WTF are you talking about, DUmmie?

These Little Goons and their ilk live and die by symbolism.  They are always in favor a "sending a message".  That's how they view the death penalty.  But for some reason, they don't want that "message" to be sent.

As usual, out of pure stupidity or willful dishonesty, the Little Goons get it all wrong.  The death penalty is about ending the life of someone who no longer deserves life.  Nothing more and nothing less.

My only objection to the death penalty is that it is not applied equally.

36. I bet the anti-abortionists

....are swarming around his holding facility right now. Ya' know, since they are all pro-life and shit.

There is a huge difference in supporting the death of murderous scum, and believing that the innocent unborn child has a right to live. Now, can you DUmmies explain how you can sanction the murder of an innocent unborn child for the convenience of it's mother, but have a problem with putting to death someone like Malvo?

Thundley, I've never heard a coherent answer to your question.  If it comes up on a talk show or something, it devolves into screeching.  It is the age-old question, though, isn't it?

Good riddance to the POS tonight.  I'll drink a toast to it.

Actually, they are quite consistent. In both instances, they protect and support the lives of murderers.  :fuelfire:

For some reason, they can not relate to the actual victims of these heinous crimes. Interesting, considering they like to make themselves out to be a victim if someone just flips them off in a car that has Bush/Cheney stickers.  :lmao:
Seriously, though, I actually think in some ways they are jealous of REAL victims. Their concerns are so petty that they see murder victims as upstaging them. Sick, but I have a feeling that's probably the reality for a number of them on that forum.

Just on Fox News, Governor Tim Kaine denied clemency to Malvo.  I guess that only leaves one option.  Come on Lord Zero, spare your murderous Muslim brother.  :rotf:
