BKG on the hot seat: social issues.

We have a new member that while a fiscal conservative, is confused on social issues.

I am creating this thread as a place were he and we can discuss it.

Okay - the premise. I'm mostly Libertarian (mostly Constitutionalist, really) but have mostly conservative values. I tend to vote Conservative first, and that battles the LIbertarian in my often. Kind of like the logic vs. emotion arguments.

Sample issues:
Abortion. Libertarian in me says "who cares?". Conservative in me is firmly pro-life.
Gay marriage. Libertarian says "live and let live - it's not infringing on my rights." Conservative supports DOMA (but not an amendment).
Welfare. Naw - both parts of me against it.  :-)
Foreign aid. Libertarian is more protectionist. Conservative sees the political and humanitarian value.

Outside of things that cost me money via insane flipping taxes, I can argue both sides pretty well. :shrug:

This one causes me heartburn from time to time, only because I'd really like to see some more consistency on some things. Tag placement, lift laws, gun transport, CCW (I was really hoping the CCW reciprocity bill would pass, admittedly), etc. But I recognize that those inconveniences are worth supporting the republic.

Unfortunately, states rights have been trampled by the Feds through blackmale and coersion... and the state governmentss have voluntarily given up many of their rights by capitulating with the feds.  Personally, I'd like to see the feds get a stipend from the states rather than collecting taxes directly, regardless of what COTUS allows... but that's just a personal dream.

I have a degree in Comp Sci w/ minors in Math and business... and started a masters in Psychology. I'm plenty confused.  :rotf: Logic almost always wins, though, which means people think I'm cold, uncaring and hateful, which could not be farther from the truth.... but justice, freedom and Liberty MUST be blind and emotion free or they fail.

Uh... definitely NOT me. Hate clubs, not a huge fan of bars... would prefer to work on the truck, split wood, play with the tractor. I'm a white-collar-redneck.  :-)

I prefer a pirate, They are in full sight, one knows they are there and have to take care about their intentions.     You know a Pirate as they fearlessly fly the skull and cross bone , they are after just one thing Booty and treasure.   They are all for themselves and everyone knows it.

Ninjas are hired personal that are out to make booty and treasure for their employer. Sneaky little buggers, you never see them coming.

Ninjas train their whole life to work as mercenaries, the Creepy Crawlies in life that go one on one to get what they can from individuals who can least afford it.

Ninjas come in the night and steal ones indentie, sell them homes they know the Client cannot afford. They talk people into investing their money with them then grab a rope and scale a wall to disappear into the dark night.

Pirates are those we vote into office to realise that "read my Lips" or Nixon's secrete way to win the war is a cannon ball over our heads.

Pirates are those holding our 401k plans that after taking 50% tell you, well you knew it was a risk, not our problem.

Ninjas are seldom seen, they work from the inside like a tapeworm to gut the body's of individuals. There are few warning signs that the Ninjas are there and as with a tape worm it takes years for a doctor to track down what is going on.
