My first suggestion is James Cook... an amazing life led by a meticulous record-keeper.  My second choice would be George Patton, but that's the 12-year-old boy in me that likes to blow stuff up.  Walter Chrylser led an interesting life.  The progression of his career from washing trains to founding the Chrysler corporation is an interesting read.

I know, I'm boring.

Florence Nightingale.....chances are no one else will, so the teacher won't be able to compare it with anyone elses.

Besides, she was pretty neat....

I would love for her to do it on Ronald Reagan but we are in CA and I don't want her teacher to grade her on a sliding scale because of the teachers politics (I have no idea what the teachers politics are by the way).

That is a great idea.  I'm printing off information about her now for my daughter to read to see if she wants to use her.

There are a couple of good biographies that are easily written for 5th grade level, no politics, lived long enough to do a decent report on, but not such an entailed life that it's impossible to hit everything(like Ronald Reagan's)

Any interesting relatives or ancestors?  My son did one on the oldest cowboy in America (relative).  Grandson did an ancestor who fought in the American Revoltion.

Obama? Oh wait, he hasn't accomplished anything , yet.  :evillaugh:

I'm afraid he's accomplished a great deal. His narcissism, his ego, and his gross mismanagement of the Oval Orifice has regalvanized much of America - not just the conservative element who distrusted Lord Zero from the moment he gave his speech in the 2004 Dem Convention, but those who are less passionate about social and fiscal conservatism. Those people are beginning to see just how badly they were duped and hornswoggled (howzAT for a word, eh?).

Unfortunately, the Republican party has lost whatever conservative base it might've had, so things still aren't peachy-keen. But as more time goes on, only those true idiots who worship at Lord Zero's feet are going to gaze upon his countenance with awe and reverence.

Everyone else is just plain disgusted.

As a non-Catholic student of the church, my suggestion would be Pope John Paul I, only 33 days as pontiff, but a very interesting fellow, and very controversial to the church........

Interesting answer.

He was quite an interesting cleric, and also fastinating in his personal life.........

It was related later (after his as-yet unexplained death) by one of the Cardinals in his conclave following the final ballot.....that he stepped to the microphone and stated simply......."May God forgive you for what you have done to me today......"

Also of interst is that the Carabinari still, to this day, have an open investigation on the events surrounding his demise.....
