My A/C was leaking freon, after inspection, the coils had black soot on them which is a symptom of chinese drywall. People in my area, which is mostly new construction, are leaving their homes...this is only going to increase foreclosures in the state.
Why did I move here again?
When I bought my brand spanking new home I was told how lucky I was to move in in the month of May. I could keep every window in the house wide open for 4-5 months to expell all the formaldehyde in the building materials and carpets.
The first fall and winter in our home was difficult, we were both feeling not too good until spring came and everything was opened up again.
As far as radiation goes, I live in an area that is close to a nuke plant. The plant every year puts out a calender with instructions on how to handle a accident or very bad incident at that plant.
What a joke, on one page we are told to stay inside and cover all outside air vents. On another page we are told to gather at some bus stop and wait outside for some kind of Mythical bus to drive us to safety. Also maps of where safe places are if one wishes to drive themselves out of the area.
RIGHT, the last thing I would do would be to get out on roads with terrified ,insane people.
BTW, when I bought my home in Va. it was a VA purchase and the seller was themself a Realtor. The home went through State, Town and Government inspection before we bought it. A few things like a piece of flooring had to be replaced and a leaking toilet.
We moved in to find the cellar full of Asbestos's covered pipes and bare wire with the old ceramic thingies in the attic.
The home was a Victorian built 100 or so years ago with NO insulation and the furnice was oil converted from coal. When the Thermostact was turned up the whole house shook for 15 seconds or so.
The house was up to code as far as having 3 electrical out lets in each room except only one worked, on examination 2 outlets were not hooked up to anything.
Hawk, a new or older house or even an apartment with new carpeting will have a down side. We can only do so much to protect ourselves, even if we pitch a tent in the woods if you know nothing about poison ivy, water tables or the areas critters we can be in big trouble.
Drives me nuts to know that all my plumbing on my home was illegal when the home was built. I live on leased land and the landlord who knew I was bringing in a 3-4 bedroom home installed a septic system for a one bed room home.
Life is crazy when it comes to money, look at the contractors that built the over head road ways in California that collaps after 8 years due to adding more sand then cement to the structures.
Good luck Hawk, this is just one of the major problem we face in life---just keep telling your self that all this could be worse.
